New M3 Owner....need advice
Hello All,
Just purchased an M3. 2011 Coupe e92 w competition package. Has 6100 miles on. I would like to do exhaust and a chip, can anyone make a recommendation on what would be the best route to go? |

There are hundreds of threads on exhaust options. I have an M Performance muffler, I like it a lot. It's fairly subtle but unique sounding.
It's an NA motor so 'chipping' it wont yield much. If you remove the primary cat's a remap / tune is worth it, otherwise there are no significant gains to be had. |

For the amount of money you'll end up spending on the mods your talking about (unless you find a smoking deal for a used item), you aren't really bolting on much power--particularly with just a different muffler.
If you want real power on these engines, the best bang for the buck is a supercharger. I believe Dinan advertises about 7hp with their intake--which I happen to have. I can tell you the car feels absolutely no different. I would either start saving for a supercharger, do some tweaks strictly for sound, or just enjoy having an awesome, low mileage car. |

Welcome and what a score! Pls post pics ASAP.
There are probably more threads on exhausts and engine tunes here than anything else so start reading. Since it’s tough to listen to all the different exhaust options in person and via video is chancy at best I reconmmend doing the OEM exhaust mod as it’s cheap and sounds great to most folks. Then if you have to have a new Performance exhaust take your time, the gains are negligible and the sounds vary quite a bit. Two of the more popular tunes on here are BPM and Alpine, people swear by both. Exciting stuff.......6200 Miles!!! Enjoy! |

Welcome to the club and Big Congratulations! 6100 miles is special...
No offence mate, but if you feel the car isn't fun enough even the first few weeks, did you actually pick up the right motor bro? Also can't help thinking with a "new" soon to become classic like this, it's almost a pity to modify to hard. OEM mod and a few cosmetics sure, but from there to ECU tune, bolts etc to gain power will only start reduce value sooner than needed. In that case I'd personally go for an well looked after but used car, maybe with some proper mods done already. Anyways, congrats and enjoy in health! |

I have bpm tune and corsa catback and love the combination! Mine had 16k miles when I picked it up 7 months ago. These won’t be collectible anytime soon so I say just enjoy it and not worry about its value too much. My mods are mild but have enhanced the experience quite significantly

my advice, get an exhaust for the sound not power. The car have over 400hp so whats another 10hp or so gonna do? When I was looking for an exhaust I was going by strictly sound, and I ended with the meisterchaft. It gives a high pitch exotic tone and no rasp.

Exhaust is a very subjective modification. Some people like the sound of one exhaust while other's might hate it. Take a listen to this video and this will help get you started:

If I were you I would try to go to a BMW car meet or something and try to hear different setups in person. I bought my M3 with MPE installed by the previous owner and I really love it, but I may change the setup in the future.
