Awron gauge and AiM Solo DL - Conflicting

I’ve been using my AiM Solo DL via the OBD port as a temporary measure until I can get the ECU lead wired in.

I stumbled across a good deal on an Awron gauge and so decided to install both at the same time, realising that they both connect to the same bit of loom under the glove box, I’m no electrical engineer but I wondered if they’d clash somehow and it turns out that they do.

The Awron gauge works fine until the AiM is turns on then the dashboard flies mad with loads of CANBUS errors and the wipers and lights do crazy things.

Someone advise that putting a 1k resister in-line with the CAN+ feed for the AiM lead would work to stop them crossing over, but I think there’s more to it as the AiM doesn’t get ny power just using the two CAN +/- wires as described in the instructions.

Would the 1k resister work or should I just wire the AiM ECU lead straight into the ECu loom under the bonnet? Would it need the power and ground wires splicing in or just the CAN+/- as the instructions state?

Thanks for any assistance.

This was happening with me and my awron gauge conflicting with Carly via obd2 port. I cut in a rocker switch on the hot lead to the awron gauge and put it in my glove box for when I need to plug in the Carly adapter in or flash the car. I didn't want to keep tearing the car apart to disconnect the awron just to be able to use the obd port.

So when I need to use the obd port I kill the awron gauge via the rocker switch and any device connected to the obd port works perfectly.

I think perhaps maybe wiring in a diode rather than a resistor in series with the awron might work as the diode will only allow current flow in one direction.

Thanks yoko22r. That’s a great idea.

I use both carly and awron in my car but didnt get any error. You may want to double check the installation of the Awron.

I also texted Awron to see if they have any other solution.

Have you tried connecting to Carly since you've installed the Awron? Give it a shot, you're probably going to run into an issue trying to connect to Carly. It seems as though anything connected to the obd port will not connect if the awron is on and powered up.

You can put the Awron into service mode to avoid the conflict with Carly. Just hold down whichever steering wheel button you've selected for 10 seconds.

This doesn't resolve the other issue though.

You have a steering wheel button that flips through your Awron screens already, right?

Just keep that button pressed until you hear the beeps, then press the button you want to change it to within 5 seconds.

Both devices use the same diagnostic CAN address to access data, meaning they cannot coexist in the same vehicle.

If you are scanning or using another CAN device, the Awron will need to be temporarily disabled.

All you had to do was press each button until the screen changed.

Seems this CANBUS can only have one device added at a time, having removed the Awron the Solo DL still doesn’t work, so I’m getting rid of both of them and going for a Racelogic VBox HD2 instead.
