Insurance salvage experience

Horrible situation to be in, hope things work out for the better.
Sometimes I feel like its worth it to pay the additional premium if you have valuable modifications or significant changes to the vehicle.
Insurance companies are such a PITA to deal with, they make everything so difficult and raise premiums without notice or reason.
At this rate, it's probably best you speak with a lawyer to dispute the decision and value of the vehicle.

Your story is similar to what I’m doing.
I have the car in my possession.
I don’t have to guarantee any working parts, as the damage to the front end was extensive.
Their choice of words were the car was insured with a V8 engine, power brakes etc...

Finding replacement parts is not easy. I’ve actually tossed the idea of buying a convertible and swapping motor etc...

The legal advice is to focus on their claim they can charge me “retail” used value for parts missing...which still may be ok, but it’s vague.

I need to exchange one “unknown quality” engine for another....but I can’t find one!

Any high mileage verts for sale.....?

Just took a quick look on CL Toronto, wow I can't believe there is not a single M3 for sale. There are a few on Vancouver CL. There was a salvage part-out a few weeks back, but the motor and tranny was sold.

"unknown quality" includes blown engine?? I'm sure you can source one on here or from a vendor.


Edit: What's your budget for the parts car? Just checked CL Vancouver, there is a e92 for sale, asking price is $26k cdn. Shipping across Canada is probably $1,500 to $2,000? You can probably stay on the cheaper end for shipping for a parts car???

Got brakes and a motor though.

another option could be to find a new e92 to swap all the parts with, 'rebuild' the car so to speak.

If I did, I would be VERY interested in doing that to a convertible.
There’s some good deals in Calgary, but nothing in Toronto yet.
Obviously, higher mileage would be preferable....

I’ve always had the car.

I’ve had to return the car back to original. I’ve been sourcing parts to swap and sell.
Not a lot of stuff, but insurance and the end user junk dealer isn’t getting Primo parts.

I sold/swapped brakes and exhaust.

Engine sale is pending with a gentleman in New York. Obviously there’s difficulty with cross border shopping at the moment, but I’m giving every opportunity to close the deal. I think our New York brothers need any ray of hope they can get, so I’m patient.
