Debating when to change valve cover gasket
So I have had a very small leak on the passenger side (US spec) of my '09 for at least year. It is currently my DD with ~88k miles.
Am about to have a change in job situation and will be storing my car for long periods of time while I spend long periods of time away from home. My question: what are your thoughts on the benefit/need to change the gasket now versus letting it sit for a couple of years? (oops: probably should have posted this in the DIY section...) |

If the car isn't being driven much, and the leak is slow, I think you'd be fine to wait.
I would definitely keep an eye on it in case the leak suddenly gets worse.

It’s not a critical failure point based on the described severity. Beyond that it comes down to preference. I just changed mine because imo, engines shouldn’t leak oil. BAut full disclosure, mine were changed under warranty. Be aware that in some cases the leak is cases by various issues with the valve cover itself and those are about $500 new each (I think).

My valve cover gasket is seeping oil. I just notice it's wet around the edges. It bothers me but it'll take many years before it becomes a problem. I don't drive the car every day.
