Water damage. Having some really bad luck w/ this car....
Couple months ago I plowed a pothole and jacked my front suspension, wheels, and tires. Now, this past weekend I came outside to find all 4 car windows down and it rained all night. No idea how. It's not like I sat there and pressed the unlock button so the car could get a nice bath. I owned a 330 for 5 years and never had this happen once.
Anyway, I sucked out something like 2 gallons of water from the floor in the back. Leather is just trashed. It's like hanging off of doors...The seats look like one of those wrinkled dogs. Just bad luck or what? Christ, I'm seriously considering ditching this thing and going back to a beater. I just can't have nice things. |

do you have comfort access? how far away is the key from the car when it is parked? i wonder if the CA can be confusing the perpetual rain fall for the touch of a person trying to lower the windows by holding the door handle (not even sure if this is an actual feature). i know the CA system goes nuts when spraying down the car with a hose while washing. just a random possibility.
Sorry to hear of the damage. Sounds like the best plan of action would be to file an insurance claim and have it all fixed.

Yea, I have comfort access. Key was probably 30-40 feet away from the car the whole night.
I know what you mean about CA flipping out when you're washing the car. The locks go absolutely nuts if the key is anywhere close by. I actually brought this up when I made my appointment but the dude on the phone had no idea. I'll talk to my SA when I bring it in. I agree though...I'm going to have the dealer look at it and get an estimate then send it off to the insurance company. |

I have came into my garage with the windows down and sunroof open twice in two months.
Its something pushing the remote button in my pocket, same thing happens on my truck too occasionally. I have a good amount of keys and another large fob on my key ring and when everything gets lined up they get pushed. Hopefully its just the leather/carpet thats damaged, if some of the electronic modules get wet it can run into some big $$. |

Yea, you don't need CA to do this. Just hold the unlock button on the keyfob and after a few seconds your windows will open. My old 330 was able to do it and I didn't have CA.

has happened to me too, we have to be careful with this key. I make sure when I park to look back a few times my indicator are my side rear mirrors, I make sure now they are folded back when I lock the car and stay that way.
It only happened once in a chopping parking lot, glad it did not rain. At home my car is parked in the garage. I read once, cannot remember where this fellow left his convertible open and it got soaked, he took everything out and dried it out it's a big job but it can be done. Hope you get yours back to normal. Good Luck!

as a matter of fact, why don't you make a 3 minute vedio and post it on youtube with you pouring water on the door handle till the windows roll down to demostrate the problem. it helps

As above, that would just be a video showing that the system works as designed. Touch sensors don't magically only respond to human hands. There's a science behind it, and you being coupled to something conductive being coupled to a touch sensor will still work.

I understand your point but if you listen to yourself talking, you will hear that you are saying "it's normal for the rain to unlock the car and roll the windows down if the keyfob is nearby" as much as I understand the technicality behind it I am sorry that should NOT be acceptable. Rain should neither be able to unlock the car nor roll the windows down. If it takes them to replace the touch pad area on the handle with a finger print reader like any laptop so be it.

I swear I am NOT making this up. after I replied to this thread, I went to my garage to take the M3 to work (yes on the weekend, lucky me) and the windows were down and the roof open. It's a possibility that I pressed the button on the keyfob long enough for that to happen but that would be the first time in 7 years..something fishy happened last night. may be BMW service screwed up and did this to other cars. ANYONE OUT THERE FOUND HIS WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN ON OCTOBER 30th?
I swear I'm not joking

I'm 100% sure you can roll them up and close the roof by touching the handle(done it many times), I'm almost sure that you can do the opposite too but I'll confirm that in 2 hours as I'm leaving here!
