X5M or Cherokee Trackhawk?

I've searched, and I know there are some threads about the Trackhawk, but I'm curious in current owners' (if there are any here??) experience...specifically reliability, service experience at a Jeep/Dodge dealer, etc...

I'm in the process of negotiating deals on 2016 CPO X5Ms, and as much of a BMW fanboy that I am (and I am!), for the same price I can get a a new '18 Trackhawk. Dealers are advertising $10k off without even negotiating.

For the same price...why would you?

Not familiar with the service from Dodge dealers, but I can't imagine it's anything close to a luxury brand's. Safe to say it would be on the same level as a Chevy dealer, which for me is always a cringe-worthy experience with Corvettes.

Why would I get a Trackhawk or an X5M?

What’s more important to you, speed and bragging rights or perceptions? The trackhawk is mid 11’s stock and can be tuned to just under 1000hp pretty easily. It’s a straight up beast... but to most people it’s just a grand Cherokee.

I followed a HPDE instructor in an x6m around PBIR while I was in a M6 and I had my car working to keep up. I was shocked how well they can move in good hands, but the M series SUV’s are not quite on the same power level as the Jeep.

I would still probably go for the XM though because I appreciate the BMW interior more and don’t feel any need to run 11 second quarter miles in my SUV, lol

My wife has one. It pulls like a frigging train! It’s a big vehicle though with a beautiful Hellcat engine. Very tunable
To 850HP wish a flash and a pulley. And over 1000HP with a tune, pulley and new injectors. It’s 4wd so puts power down easily. I did a 0-60 with my son in the car along with me (400 lbs or so combined). Did 3.1 sec using launch control.

It’s still a big heavy 5700 lb SUV anyway you look at it. Mileage sucks at 13-15 with my wife babying it. The Hellcat engine sucks down 1.5 gallons a minute at WOT LOL

It’s pretty new to give service and reliability opinions. It’s a JEEP LOL

Happy to answer any other questions you may have

Tough choice. Pretty equal in performance. It would come down to price.

My buddy just got one loaded for 92k, he got 5k off sticker and was happy about it. Very nice vehicle with a great interior. To me, 92k seems pricey for a jeep.

X5M all day. To me the details come into play, fit and finish, materials, quality, etc. plus Jeep service is crap compared to BMW, I have a RAM too, it’s all the same.

I think Doug Demuro has a video on it and he's pretty fair in his reviews.

I'd probably go with a CPO X5M, though. The interior isn't on the same level for sure.

Parts for an X5M out of warranty will be outrageous. I'm on my second Grand Cherokee V8 and I love them. The BMW interior is, without a shade of doubt, much nicer and more refined but the reliability of the Jeep, in my experience, is far greater than BMW. Parts are cheap as shit and pretty readily available. I have also received great care at my Jeep dealership, though I am not provided with a loaner.

Thanks guys for everyone's input.
And just to be clear, I would not be owning the X5M out of warranty/MP.

Agree with most in saying "It's a Jeep". I've had Grand Cherokee's and now a Wrangler.
The dealerships are hit or miss on service and quality is something that has improved but is still nowhere near BMW.
The Trackhawk is not selling well. Dealers can't seem to give them away. Heavy discounts can be had. Fire sale is coming soon. Just like on the Hellcats.

I had a 2015 Grand Cherokee SRT that I traded in for the F80 M3... Granted, not quite the trackhawk, but close as you can get. I loved that thing, but be prepared for many annoyances. Pealing CF trim, lock mechanisms failing. Terrible paint, and many more small things. Just signs of poor quality parts, not what you'd expect out of a $60-$80K vehicle. I experienced a few of the issues, but overall was very happy with it until some dumb kid rear-ended me and it was never the same.

Even with good sales there's discounts to be had.
A few high volume dealers offering 5-8% under invoice on everything in Jeeps lineup. Discounts doesnt mean they don't sell.
There are other dealers selling them for 5-10k over MSRP.

I believe it was Marchionne who said they'd limit production to 2500 this year.
You don't know much about the Trackhawk market. They are not selling well. Not even close!!! Have a good day.

OP, I have a 15 X5M and a 2018 GC limited. Can't speak for the trackhawk, but if it shares the interior of the limited ( I.e. same parts) then it's a piece of shit. My X5M gets better MPGs even though it's a TT V8 as opposed to the V6. I have no idea why. Driven by me in the same manner (GC more babies due to lack of power) and in the same location.

Can't argue the performance of a trackhawk and if people want to get one then more power to them, but reliability and quality are utter garbage. I've already had more problems in 2k miles on the GC than in 22k miles in the X5M.

I could not live with the interior of the Jeep, plus it's pretty boring to look at. This generation Cherokee has been on the roads for 10 yrs now. Outdated vehicle no matter how fast it is.

1. I was talking about the V6 having appalling mpg.

2. We have had over 10 GCs over the past 10 years and they have all had similar problems. Only reason we continue to lease them is because my mother likes them for some odd reason. No need to take my word for it. Just look up jeep's reliability compared to other brands

My wife's girlfriend owns a white one. Nice little SUV, but I have a hard time telling it apart from all the other Grand Cherokees.
