UPDATE: After spending an hour in a parking lot I was able to start reproducing the issue with some success. Although it has occurred while driving straight and in higher gears as well, I get quite a bit of success in replicating the issue when making a right turn and accelerating in 2nd. I then shift to third around 2800-3000 rpm while under 30-40% throttle. It seems to occur more frequently if I execute the above while also going up a slight incline.
When driving home a few days ago and making a slight right turn under 30-40% acceleration the shift was hard enough to activate stability control while in the turn... I was completely not expecting that, good thing I had stability control on.

UPDATE: I was able to demonstrate the issue multiple times to the BMW shop foreman (who is a very knowledgeable guy btw, very impressed). He opened a case with BMW Germany.

UPDATE: BMW Germany is replacing my entire DCT transmission.
Certainly one happy customer right here. I suspect most other car companies would not have taken care of things like BMW did.

Yikes. Did they give a reason for the issue?

Nope. When I pick up the car I will see what details I can get out of the shop foreman.

Well I just experienced this issue while driving tonight. Car was fully warmed got off the freeway and noticed the Rpms would climb like 500 or so higher after I pull the shift lever for the car to actually shift. Definitely some kind of lag or delay. Mine is a 2011.5. Will drive around a few more days to see if I can replicate. This is truly annoying. Only happens on up shifts. Downshifts are instant. Car has 20k. Anyone else have insight?

BMW instructed the dealership to replace the clutch pack. However, those are on back-order from Germany for quite some time. BMW then instructed the dealership to replace the transmission. See if you can reproduce the issue yourself before going to the dealership, otherwise you will just get the run around.

The dealership will first try to reset the adaptation which does make the problem occur less frequently for a while but it still happens and will happen more as the software settles in. The theory the shop foreman had when I was driving him around was that there is an issue with the clutches not engaging correctly at a few, very certain points. The software detects this and tries to adapt but it overcompensates. This results is the delayed and jolting shift you and I experienced. His theory made sense to me. He also suspected the problem would start to occur more as the car got hot. I cannot confirm this. I also cannot say for certain it got noticeably worse. It typically would occur 2-3 times a day. Sometimes it would be mild, and one time it activated the stability control if jolted so hard. I only ever had one error in which I was accelerating in a straight line under normal conditions. I went to shift (2-3? not sure), it delayed like it was going to do another bad shift, then it did not shift and I lost all my odd gears. Drove home on the even gears, restarted the car and it was fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much, BMW will fix it. All you need to do is be able to reproduce it. The best success I had was braking for a 90 degree right turn in a parking lot, but don't shift below 2nd. Make the turn and accelerate out of 2nd at about 30% throttle. Keep it very smooth. Shift around 2800-3200 RPM. Ideally find a turn where there is an incline you are now driving up after the turn. It would almost happen on command if I met all those conditions. Good luck!

We'll it happened again. Pulled shift lever at 4k rpm and wait like a second for it to climb to 4500 rpm for the shift to complete. Do you think if i take it in for them to scan it for codes something will show? I'm pretty confident it won't show up during a test drive when I take it in. Looks like 3 months ago was the last incident

will these occasional issues trigger a fault to be stored somewhere in the memory? im not in the mood to waste time at the dealer to let them drive the car around town and plug it in the computer to find nothing.

Very unlikely. Even a random DCT bang doesn't store faults in most cases.
