I posted this on projecttechnik but it occurred to me it might make sense to post here.

Anyone want to pick up Lux H8 V3's before the meet?
http://www.bimmereyes.com/Services.html

If we can get 5 of us in on it, it's free shipping and we can distribute at the meet. They are back in stock on the 12th. Thoughts?

660 News this morning reported that Race City will be closed at the end of the month, with the last official event occuring yesterday.

Granted, this is the news reporting, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. I haven't heard anything else beyond that.

I have been told that we will have until first snow to run which could be late October.

They are already paving the short course at Castrol though, with the full course scedule to be completed next summer.

Will that be our only option? I heard a rumour that a privately owned track was being developed somewhere just North of Calgary...?

I have heard there maybe other things coming but they are not approved yet let alone under construction.

The last attempt in an MD was denied so I am not holding my breath.

There have been some pretty wild rumors.. even to do with a track being built near Drumheller. I'll believe it all when I see it.

Well they are trying but the biggest problem is getting the zoning.... Even in the middle of noware Alberta, nobody wants it in their backyard. The money was in place.

Bumping up my for sale ad on 2008 M3. Price lowered to $49,900. Good price now for an excellent M3 with 36,000km.

There have been a couple proposals, but they eventually got turned down due to adjacent land owners. One of these proposals was surrounded by gravel pits too.

Thanks... I'm going to get an SUV and another "toy" in summer. It's a solid car.

That's too bad. NIMBY attitudes drive me crazy. You would think Alberta has enough wide open spaces to accommodate a rural track...

Yea I agree. The rural areas are probably tougher to get anything going as they don't want any change or urbanization near them. They like the way things are, as it is and do not like change. Location and getting the support of the people around you is key for these type of things. It's a lot of work, but I can see it being accomplished. I remember the City of Calgary police dept. had an application for a training facility with a track and shooting range. All the studies were done and looked great, and eventually got shut down because of NIMBY.

The irony is that at one point, someone probably loved the peaceful, raw nature of where their property is now and they have "ruined" that. It's okay for someone to develop their land, but when another person wants to further any other development, they are the first to object!

I did a proposal once for a lakefront development and I asked for comments. They said they didn't want the people in this new development because they would ride their skidoos all over the lake. I asked if we should ban skidoos on the lake all together? They responded "no way" because they wouldn't be able to ride theirs... Oh, brother!
