What's the going rate/price for an exhaust install? I'm doing my budget so I know how much I'm looking at. Thanks in advance.

Locate a local "car guy" that knows his stuff. You can probably find a knowledgeable person at a local car meet.

The gentleman that I know will charge me about $75-100 for a complete full catless exhaust set-up including the x-pipe. I think that's a reasonable price compared to a lot of the shops out there.

Honestly I suck and still said screw it and went at this by myself. If its your first time doing this, or even if you've done this once or twice on an import, give yourself 3-5 hours. As far as skill needed if you can build something from Ikea, you should be good. Tools might be an issue if you don't have a decent set (full metric wrench, socket, deep socket set along with a 6 inch extender, and full screwdriver set with Torx) but those along with jack stands are something we should all own anyway (unless you live on an Army base).

I was lucky and was using a lift AND ran into a guy who was experienced with Euros, so with occasional help from him I got it done in around 2.5 hours. If I had to do it now though I could knock it out in less than an hour, and thats on jack stands.

The exhaust is one of the more forgiving parts of our cars to mess around with, so I highly recommend getting in there and DIY. The sense of accomplishment gained from working on your own car is a great feeling, especially since its not like you were just throwing a huge spoiler on a Civic.

I think it sounds harder than it actually is. I installed my AA exhaust today in 2 hours with a buddy on a couple ramps. Save yourself the money and give it a try.

The muffler shop installed my Eisenmann Race within 30 mins.

Are you talking a full exhaust system or a cat back system? I posted a DIY of my Fabspeed x-pipe install on here. It's pretty simple stuff, but it can be a pain in the ass to line everything up while lying on your back. A cat back system is very simple to install, it helps to have a friend to lift or help you guide the muffler in place while you're under the car doing the work.

As far as price, a cat back should be 1 hour or less labor. A full exhaust system should be less than two hours at a shop.

My guys in Berlin, NJ charged me $50 to install my Eisenmann Sport.

It should take a shop with a lift no longer than an hour. Most shops charge $60-$80 per hour, so that should be it.

$80 for cat-back at my BMW dealer.

Start removing cats and the price goes up and most dealers wouldn't even do it for you. With independent shops, show up with cash in hand and give them reason to believe that you're not with the government.
