Can a dealership charge extra on a preorder after it docks?

A friend of mine purchased a scion TC. She had it customized and had to wait 6-8 weeks. They call her up telling her car is here for pickup, however at the Dock, they added $3000 worth of customization and she is responsible for the $3000 or she could get her deposit back or wait for another car.

Is it me or is that illegal. She signed a contract with a deposit stating that a car will be delivered to her in 6-8 weeks...Whats your insight on this?

That's illegal. Does she have a copy of the contract with her specific order?

since when is the wait on the scion TC 6-8 weeks?

any why is it a problem to pay for custimization when you order a customized car. So they customized it 3 grand more than she'd asked for?

I thought scion's deal was you pay sticker, no haggling, just like saturn.
Why can't she just buy one off the lot? it's a friggin scion, there aren't factory installed options, just accesories (dealer installed)

all scions are now "made to order" they are not stocking any at dealerships. They are telling people that they are in high demand and have to be ordered when in fact they are not selling at all anymore and they dont want to make any more then they have to. I have a friend who is a dealer....

To answer your question. If she has anything in writing with price quoted then she wont have to pay for anything else or they will have to refund deposit.

welll if you paid only for certain additions...i don't think you'd want to spend extra 3000 on things you never ordered on "your" car...ex: you special order a BMW 325xi with just navi and automatic..and they send that same one with the roadblock, alarm sirius already installed..would you feel like its your responsibility to pay the extra money? Probably not since you never asked for those "accessories" They put extra things on your car..
