Dyno #s

This may be a silly question but, how come some of the m3s have such a big difference in whp compared to others (stock ones) I understand not all engines are 100% identical. But some make 20-30hp difference stock... I'm kind of scared to dyno my car because I dont want to be disappointed. I wanna make 400whp NA... I've a few m3s pull it off. But others with the same mods don't?

I hope I made sense...
Thanks

Take it to EAS, they have some 400whp packages. If you want to go a different route, Call Vishnu up and get the proceed/meth combo. I made 400whp with just exhaust and Vishnu meth/proceed.

The big variance is usually differences between dynos and dyno operators. I am willing to bet if you test five stock M3's on the same dyno, same day, and same correction factors they would all be within a few % of one and other!

From what I gather the M3s pulling the lowest #s are the very early ones (early software) and updating the car's software to the latest spec fixes the issue.

Don't quote me on that but check out this thread for more info on that.

EAS sees A LOT of E9x M3s. Probably more than any shops so they can probably shime in on that. If I'm not mistaken they've seen stock cars dyno anywhere from ~310 to high 350s.

^This. Not all dynos read the same; there are different kinds/types (eg... Mustang, Dyno Jet, etc...)

^+2 on this

Inertia based dynos don't provide very accurate absolute numbers. They can provide pretty decent "before and after" comparaisons as long as the car set-up on the dyno is very well controlled. Mustang dynos are a bit better as they do apply some load.

EDIT: Fuel type is another important variable

Don't get caught up in dyno numbers, strive for performance numbers. Dynos are only good for a before and after delt a gain. Those 330rwhp stock Dyno cars that now make 380 modded are every bit as fast as the 350 stock rwhp, then 400rwhp modded cars. If you just want a 400 rwhp graph look for the right dyno and operator and u can have it stock..

We've even had a stock MY12 baseline at ~360. The norm is 340-350whp.
