Ordering my 2009 M3... Red with extended Fox red leather?
Hey Guys,
I am going to be ordering my new 2009 M3 shortly and I am going back and forth on the collar combo that I have chosen... I LOVE the Red on the exterior and I LOVE the Fox red extended leather... And I have been thinking that those would be my collars all along... BUT I do not want it to be a clash in reds.... I have not actually seen this collar combo on the new M3 in person on even in a picture. What do you guys think? Does anyone have a picture or video? Thanks!! |

Well IMO I think that would be too much red I would go with the black leather with CF trim. I've never seen it with the red and red but I dont know if it would look good. That's just me though in the end man your the one thats got to like it. Wish you the best man it's a great car I just picked mine up two days ago.

There are a couple pictures of this combo floating around, BUT keep in mind:
The two reds are very different. Fox red does not look like the pictures on this site. It will be a huge clash.. If you plan on selling the car at anytime, understand that you might be one out of a million people who like your color combination choice.

I have MR with red interior ...not ext though. With CF trim I think it looks AMAZING. I was worried as well...seemed a bit of a risk ...as we all know the online colors aren't DEAD on to the real life colors.
I am GLAD I did not do extended ..I think it would have been TOO much red inside. The red int is kind of a ox blood , boot leather red color ...so its not overly glossy or loud. My 2 c though... I DEFIANTLY suggest trying to see in LIVE rather than online...pics do NOT do it justice.

Thanks Guys.... KJFLOOD, do you have a video of your car that you could show me? I find that the collars are a little closer to the real thing in a video verse a picture.
It would REALLY help, its kind of a big deal! lol I guess a picture of your car would help aswell, I have not even seen a picture of this combo! Thanks alot! |

The red/red sedan in Car and Driver looked fantastic in photos. Go for it. I have to say though, I've been in a couple cars with extended leather and without and I'm not seeing what the big deal is that makes it worth the extra money.

Here you go: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151007
It isn't extended, but I don't think anybody has posted pics of that on here. Also, its color, not collar (sorry, it was bugging me)

Make sure you go with extended if you decided to get red on red. Might as well go all out if you're doing it.

i have jerez with extended fox red. i know when i told my family i bought a car with a red leather interior, i gotta a fair share of heat. until they saw it, its different and no one dislikes it, may not all love it, but its different and not in a loud way. however, i dont have mr on fr; personally for me that would be over the top, i would like it originally, but think i would get bored, but its personal. also, dont think about resale values, the car is for you, if you are worried about losing 5k when you resell it, you shouldnt buy it.

.. Regardless ... you just can't go wrong ...
Fox red is beautiful .. and has just the right amount of punch in it (it i more red brick - brownish red .. than just RED). It is very difficult to photograph so nothing beats the real deal. I was peering at an alpine white/fox/carbon e90 DCT the other day at my dealership (yes I love to window shop) and I freakin' couldn't take my eyes of it. Red looks great with both carbon and aluminum but I would go carbon as it just screams BMW M .. please no WOOD ... not on Fox.
With regard to extended ... you should get it. Why? ... uniqueness and it screams luxurious P-car. I do think that bamboo extended looks the best (as it really comes at you especially when matched with carbon trim .. splits the dash in half ... gorgeous) but fox is a close second. Fox would have the exact same effect .... but screams more than bamboo as the color does have the most punch of the 4 tones offered in the M. Depends on the effect you like to have when you get into your car. Now .. IMHO .. you either have the exterior OR the interior scream at you .. ! Red is beautiful .. but like many good things .. too much of it .. is not. Go extended FOX with Space Grey (1st choice) ... trying getting a deal on an '08 vert with that combination .... or Jerez (2nd choice) ... or silver stone (3rd choice). With Melbourne RED go BB-extended ... classic Ferrari all the way baby ... or stick with black. .. like I say regardless ... you can't go wrong .. it is after all an M .. |

Also, great comment re Ext Bamboo: looks great on a JzB ''vert - what I saw at BMW Welt last year: But still going w/ Ext FR for the oomph! This image needs to be darkened a bit, but one I took prior to a test: A bit better, but shaded:
