I believe you need an entirely new mirror assembly for each side, not cheap. $450-500 per side from Tischer. (I just ran this PN: 51168045047 (left side.)) Looks like that excludes glass and the cap. You can mitigate the cost by selling your current mirrors to non-M 3 series guys.
I thought there was a DIY somewhere showing somebody who did this?

In addition to the parts, you will need to recode the car for the folding mirrors to work. You can figure out how to do it yourself if you are comfortable or just pay one of the vendors that does local, or remote coding. Just google "bmw coding" for more info. Good luck.

as stated before, you'd have to get a new mirror assembly as your current mirrors do not have the motor to fold. not sure if the wiring is present to actually get power and control to the mirrors tho.
you'd also have to retrofit the driver side panel button to control the folding mirrors once installed. however, if you don't want the button, you can just have a local coder activate key fob control of the folding mirrors.

If you have the Homelink buttons in your driver visor then you must have the folding mirrors and thus the Premium Package. But it seems that you do not, sorry...

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do or http://bmwfans.info/ edit: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...45&hg=51&fg=07 looks like there is a certain option listed for fold in mirror, which I'm guessing is the actual motor.

BTW, on the E46 you could retrofit power folding mirrors and not additional wiring was required. Assume it would be the same now but one of the forum vendors could probably tell you.
