M3 "standard stereo" vs. premium sound

not that it was a option for me, but I would have opted without the premium stereo if I could. It's good, really good, but I usually turn it off, roll down the windows, and flex my right foot, the only sound I need.

Wow, did you really just assume that because there are 7 bands it's a Logic7???

A 7 band EQ has nothingto do with Logic7 - which is a trademark for a surround sound algorithm system created by Lexicon (a division of Harman Kardon)

Your M3 does NOT have Logic7 - it has the Premium Sound (aka the BMW Individual Sound System).

i have the standard. its the same premium sound i had in my 335. it sounds fine to me . the premium sound for 1900 bucks is rediculous

Look at your window sticker...

And you can tell just by listening to it...

If both fail, call your dealer and give him your VIN, he'll be able to pull up your specs...

In Canada I'm told the sound system in the 2011 is crap compared to the 2008-10 M3. The previous owner of my car (an '08) traded it in for an '11 and has complained about the quality of the sound system compared to the '08 so it seems BMW dropped the sublime individual sound sytem for the logic 7 in these 2011s, at least here in Canada.

In the USA:

The base M3 stereo is a step below the Logic 7 system found in the 335i

The Premium M3 stereo is a step above, it's referred to as the Invididual stereo option in other countries

both are pretty bad. no way would I pay 1900 for the premium. 1900 will get you a LOT of stereo at a stereo shop.

I set the EQ on my Premium system based on Pencilgeek's thread. I don't have a hard copy of the thread but the following should be very close to what he originally posted.

EQ Settings:
100 Hz: +1
200 Hz: +1
500 Hz: +4
1000 Hz: +5
2000 Hz: +8
5000 Hz: +5
10000 Hz: +5

Treble: 0
Bass: +3

Front/Rear: R-2 or 3

This was meant as a starting point from which folks could then tweak to taste. He used some pretty high-end audio analysis equipment when coming up with these numbers.

Personally, I like a little more low end thump (and the PS falls a bit short in that area, IMO). I've bumped the 100 Hz to +4 and the 200 Hz to +2. My bass setting is usually is at +4 to +5 and Treble is +1. Fader is neutral or R-1.

I also find myself liking the "fullness" of the audio without the "surround" function active in many instances... Play around a bit and you can get the system up to its potential

the premium system, imho, is completely worthless of the 2k price tag. yeah it's better than the standard setup, but it doesn't sound "good" at all. it sounds ok at best by my book.

I'm torn. I am still under the impression that the Logic7 in my previous 335 walked all over my "Premium" in my M3. Maybe I am still not used to the difference in sound between my previous E90 and the new E92.

Yes , the 7 is because of the 7 band EQ, And the system may have a new name, But it's the very same Quality system. Even though the Apple may be Green, It's Still A Apple.
