Can I run style 67s for autocross?

Hi,

I posted this in the tire section and thought I’d ask here as well.

I just bought a new to me 08 e90. I’ve got a set of fresh re-71s that I use for my e46 that I would like to use through the rest of the season.

Will it hurt the car or handling dynamics or create a safety issue to use the e46 style 67s? I’m a noob when it comes to dealing with offsets. The rear offset is pretty close, but the front is way different.

E46, Style 67
18x8, 18x9
Front Offset: ET+47
Rear Offset: ET+26

E90, Style 220M
Front Offset: ET+29
Rear Offset: ET+23
Bolt Pattern: 5 x 120
Factory Setup, Front: 19 x 8.5
Factory Setup, Rear: 19 x 9.

TIA for any help.

I'm not a fan of running any sort of spacer larger than 5mm on the track (or at all, really, but especially at the track).

220M are 9.5" in the rear.

The wheels can be made to fit with spacers but there are far better options. The front will need an enormous spacer. I see things a little differently when it comes to tires. I almost never "use up" my tires to the point that they are trash. I try to sell them while there is still some life (and value). I would recommend selling what you have and move on to a wheel / tire that fits properly. Why suffer with improper fit to save a few hundred dollars? Doesn't seem worth it.

You could also transfer the RE71 over to a better fitting wheel. I saw in your other post that you have 275/245 tires. Why not transfer them to a set of 18's in proper e9x specs? You could even sell the 245's, get another pair of 275's and run 275 square.

I agree with slicer, you could very easily sell those wheels and tires to cover a huge chunk of the cost of new ones.

And then there's the cost of spacers and extended lugs. You would need to buy spacers to accommodate this setup which will become useless to you in the future. A quality spacer kit with lugs is at least $100. You can resell in future but it's another cost to consider. Cut your losses and move on.

Re-use the tires on a different set of wheels. That's just a waste of time trying to get those to fit properly up front without running a ridiculous amount of spacer, and it's going to suck on top of it because wheel width matters as much or more than tire width in autocross - supporting the tire well is a real performance benefit. I'd think whatever street wheel/tire you have on proper wheels would get you 95% of the performance of your E46 setup while you look for a cheap set of proper size 18's, of which there are many on here. You're going to be into at least $100 just in spacers to get these fitting somewhat properly up front...spacers you'll never use again once you have a set of decent 18's for the E90.

And if you choose wisely you can use your E90 wheels on the E46 too, just not in a "stock" class

^ Agreed, plus it's a new car so just focus on learning how it behaves in stock form.
