DVD in Motion

For those who have iDrive, do you guys know if we can play music videos like the f8x. Not the biggest thing but might make the car seem a bit newer.

You can enable DVD in motion with Carly quite easily.

Yeah I know about coding that in but I was specifically asking if we could play music videos like in the newer bmws. Figured it would be a cool little touch to make the car a little more "techy" .. I've made some searches and people were saying no but the dates of those threads were before the new iDrives

You can with a snap in adapter and an iPhone 4 or 4S. You load whatever videos or movies into the phone via iTunes and you can play them as you see fit if DVD in motion has been done. You do not need an apps FSC to do this either. Just proper coding and fbas Wired to CIC from snap in adapter. Not full screen like a DVD though.

So the only way to do it is with a IPhone 4s? I know my friend plugs in a usb and it plays via iDrive that way

If he has music videos saved onto a USB thumb drive then you can do it that way, but who the heck does that?????? DVD in motion is a gimmicky feature imo. Most music videos are dumb anyways.

Maybe wasn't sure if our iDrives is the same, he has a f8x. It was just something I figured would add a nice touch to an older design

They have NBT on the new cars, "Next Best Thing", we have CIC iDrive.

You could always get an aftermarket android unit, or retrofit Combox to keep things more updated.

I'd agree except for when I had a Black Sabbath concert DVD playing while I was stuck in traffic.

That was exceptionally awesome.

To my knowledge you can only play USB videos on NBT not CIC. What year is your friends car?

I have a pristine iPhone 4S if you want to do this. Was only ever used as a test device for my work

I can play an actual DVD while in motion, but they won't play off my thumb drive.

So, I've made a few DVDs with my favorite concerts and videos, and play them in the car when I'm in the mood. Since I don't play CDs for music (I use my thumb drive for that), I'm making use of my DVD slot.
