Bad design or not, might be the best odds to glance off and go airborne rather than slam into a vertical wall. It's how fast you stop that (usually) kills ya...

I would also think that to not be able to hit that tunnel opening properly (as in, on the roadway), one would have to be: (a) Mad drunk, (B) Falling asleep, (C) Texting, or (D) Forced off by another road-hogging driver. In that order of likelihood.

As said in my previous post, the speed is unrestricted about 1/4 mile before the tunnel and drops to 100KPH, then 80KPH just before the tunnel. It appears the driver clipped the bottom right edge at the entrance of the tunnel (likely with the passenger front of her car). The car then flipped (basically spiraled like a football) and went airborne, hitting the top of the tunnel with the underside of the car (causing the tire marks on the ceiling). An accident of this magnitude would have required some major speed, much faster than the 51MPH as is legal through this tunnel I am sure.

Here is a view approaching the tunnel

Here is the entrance to the tunnel. Tire marks can be seen, as well as the nice little ramp (aka the rim around the entrance to the tunnel) which the driver used to get airborne. Talk about a bad design. I'd say it was an accident waiting to happen (no pun intended)

Tire marks

Damage where vehicle hit the side of the tunnel

Tire marks again

Overall shot

Discuss. Enjoy. You're welcome.
You are a man of your word !
Your post adds lots of info into this thread about this accident .
And your comment and pics are reporter worthy .
Really appreciate it , thank you man .

Impressive drive. I had my e46 M3 up to 150 mph and found it remarkably stable. At some point I would love to open up my e92, but I need to find the right (legal) venue.

my guess is this lady really was a very potent driver and was attempting a loop on entry. that or some sort of hover car experiment gone bad.

the lip of the tunnel suggests placement of the tires would require some magical driving to say the least.

My question is: how did she get to the ceiling when the tunnel has barely even started.. Is there a ramp before entering???

Agreed, I noticed that too. Photoshop?
