Guys maybe take this argument to PM? Kinda getting off-topic

Glad to hear OP seems to have seen reason and abandoned the initial S/Cing plan. I'm also of the opinion that this car is a helluva lot of fun NA!

But financing a supercharger? For real? is this before or after you have to get Hankook V12 tires?

These cars are expensive to own. Keep a rainy day fund.

As someone who owns a set of Hankook V12s I'm deeply offended sir... Kidding lol but I do own a pair, not like im tracking that set tho, I'm a frugal man.

A lot of other comments are in regards to maintenance costs, but if you are half decent with your hands the maintenance is a fraction of what others have mentioned. I saw someone say $500 for spark plugs lmao are you joking, theyre less then $100 for the plugs and an hour of time.... Throttle actuators are cake as well and you can get them both rebuilt with lifetime warranties for like $600 rather then shelling out $600 each plus labor. RBs are like other mentioned, $3k with the engine mounts, only "maintenance" item I wont touch on this car (don't have the experience).

I'm pretty good at maintenance, look at the DIY's in my signature. These are still expensive cars to own, albeit probably the cheapest high performance cars to own used

Oh sorry my comment wasn't to you directly but to OP. I've followed some of your DIYs I know you know what you're doing boss!

Again, sincerely appreciate everyone's feedback, both constructive and not so constructive. Obviously I'm in a place to understand my situation better than anyone so those posts that can appear judgmental don't really offend me. I've been a part of forums for other hobbies before and know how to separate the chaff.

Getting on a plane for vacation today, and while I'm super excited about the trip, I can't wait to get back at the end of the month and finalize a deal. I'll be sure to post my new to me M3 when I do! Thanks again.

Seriously ... I think you'd have a better chance gaining traction running rim with no tires vs v12s

I'm going to go against the grain here and say supercharge it as soon as you want to. I bought my M3 5 years ago with the direct intention of supercharging it shortly after purchase and that's exactly what I did. If it weren't for the supercharger, I'd probably be farting around in a stage 2 F80 instead. Just like you, I budgeted for the total cost of the car including supercharger (though I did not finance the SC) as I knew I wasn't interested in keeping it NA. As you pointed out, you know your financial situation better than a bunch of forum kids so if you can swing it, go for it and you won't regret it! Just make sure you have some funds set aside for maintenance/repairs and don't do anything stupid like taking out a student loan to pay for it (facepalm lol). Also, consider picking up a used SC kit if you want to save a couple bucks. They are easy to find around $5-$6k, which is an amazing bang for the buck.

In the end, it is your money. Up to you if you want to SC your M3, pay down your mortgage, or spend it on hookers and blow. Your choice.

If only I had enough to do all 3...

Buy, keep stock, stash away the supercharger money for unexpected maintenance, enjoy.
In that order.

I recommend to shelve the SC.
Spend the $10k to buy a newer lower mileage car.
preferred w some warranty on it.

once you learn how to drive a high rev NA v8 you will not miss a SC unless at the dragstrip

I've learned to always spend a few extra bucks on the best car you can find

good luck

Hey Buddy,

Not sure if this is helpful, but I just bought an E92 M3 and I have found it amazingly responsive and linear. Of course a SC will pump it up heaps, but I honestly dont know why it is neccessary - the car is so well paced as it is! Try before you buy maybe?

I'm going back to the first post where he was commenting and I quote "refinancing his house, buying a m3, vacation, paying rod bearings, rolling the cost of the SC into the loan" all the while coming up with 10K in a year or two plus having little experience in high HP vehicles and wanting to SC a 70K mile stock engine.
Priorities man Priorities. 70K stock will need rod bearings and a whole lot more if you want to SC it and not blow it up.
Drive it stock, it's more car than most people can handle...Not kidding.

I've seen a few of my friends die in them wrapped around a tree. One was a forum member here a few years back. His fault yes, but until you really understand this car do not underestimate your driving abilities or this car. If you want the power the SC provides right off the bat of owning this car I would suggest you give it a trial run stock.

No it's not a 700HP hellcat, daemon, Z06 vette or ZL1 camero (if thats what you want, then buy one of those) but it is still a seriously fast car with amazing feedback and a nice touch of comfort. it will run solid from 3K to 8,400 breaking any normal road laws, unless you are lucky enough to have an autobahn.
Good luck.

Sadly my autobahn day’s are behind me! And I was only able to manage a 10 year old Audi when I did live there. But we rolled at our limit that’s for sure!!!

I do appreciate all the feedback. I am going to hold off on an SC, but not because I’m worried about my driving prowess. I raced go-karts as a kid, learned to drive on a standard, taken Bill Scott’s Executive Protection Driving Course (180s, reverse 180s, reverse 180s from the passenger seat, PITTING, and ramming techniques, along with 3 days of high speed driving all on the military’s dime) and have owned a couple of 5.0l vehicles. Now a 2 wheel vehicle, yes I’d be dead in a matter of days.

I’ll get the layout of the car then see what I think, but yes, a newer model with less miles. I’ll keep y’all posted.

Seriously though folks, I just did my annual check up with my financial advisor. I’m still set for a VERY comfortable retirement at 62, if not 60 as I’d like. This is just another indulgence, one that I have to tread lightly around as the SO sees it as frivolous.

I think supercharging these cars is a sensative issue around here, I think people see it as a slap in the face to the high revving NA s65. What I really love though is all the life experience, financial and supercilious advice you've been receiving 😂. Keep us posted on your ride op, good luck!
