2008 M3 IDRIVE CIC retrofit & NAV update
Hey guys....gone but not forgotten? LOL Anyway I still talk to Ase2dais and a few of you other guys but wanted to share my latest mod/retrofit with you all. Yes I went and bit the bullet and did the 2009+ Idrive CIC retrofit in my car. As you guys know the old Idrive and controller came with the 2008 M3's which were released that 1st model year only to have BMW upgrade the whole Idrive system the following year in 2009+ cars. Alot of folks were salty about that who bought 2008 cars and there were few options but much discussion since then. Well there is an option which I found from Patryk who is a board sponsor and frequent poster which takes OEM BMW parts 2009+ and retrofits them back in place of your 2008 CCC based units. Pretty easy to do (w/instructions and a little research) and works well with 100% OEM functionality. Much better option than losing $$ and equity on a trade for a newer model (especially for those who have extensively modded their 2008 cars) IMHO.
So gentlemen/ladies I present my 2008 M3 I drive retrofit post/mod review/link. PM if you have any questions/comments. Enjoy. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...74#post8701074

Awesome MOD man...I saw that in the Forum the other day...can you PM the price that Patyk gave to you...I've got a 2008 M3 (07/08 Build) and am really considering this MOD. I know he lives in Poland...and I'm currently stationed in Germany...but will eventually be taking the car back to the states sometime in 2012...so I wanna make sure that if i throw the EUR maps on there...I can still throw the US maps in there in the future.

Mine do. I have the Ipod and USB hookup as an production option in my car (6FL I think its called) and my ipod works fine using same connector. Also DVD works to upload music via CD into the harddrive which play back great. Additional USB is routed into the glove and is good too for upload if needed. But with the ipod and CD ripping capability haven't used it much.

the problem is, I don't have a reliable internet connection where I park my car for like 3 hours to load the program...
plus this costs an arm and a leg...the parts alone are like $400 or something right? |

Find a buddy with a good hardwire internet or fast wireless router. Mine was okay but I did have to kick all the family off the internet during the main coding session (i.e. no Xbox live for my 11 y/o) Parts tho are more than $400 but alot less than what you're gonna lose on buying a new 09+ car on a trade from what I've heard from ALL of those who have gone that route unless you and the dealership owner are golf buddies and you're getting a sweetheart deal! IMHO

i am very interested in doing this but dont even know where to start. Was there a site you bought all your parts from or did you buy them used from different people?
Also, it looks like you only had the new controller installed at one point? Do you remember how much it cost to get it working properly? i might do this first if it isn't too expensive. |
