Temperature Related Starting Issues

A few weeks ago I started having starting issues when it's cold. Everything powers on but start button will not start car, doesn't even try.

It's very sporadic and will randomly start after X amount of tries.

When it's warm all day, above 60, it cranks right up. After it starts in the morning it cranks right up every time until it sits over night again and temps drop below 60.

Think this is the starter, battery, or other issue? I have not done the battery cable recall yet, would that impact it?

For example, this morning I tried to start it about 30 times within 15 min. It wouldn't even try to turn over. All electronics are on. Said F it and jumped in my truck. Came home from work and it cranked up first try. It was about 55-60 degrees out today.

Before I go replacing the starter, which is a huge PITA, any ideas on if it could be another issue?

Thanks!

How old is your battery? I've had 2 BMW's where the OEM battery lasted 11 years, but when they finally decided to die, the obscure symptoms were unbelievable. All over the map! I chased airbag and starting issues, weird codes, and they all went away when I replaced the battery....

I have had the same issue but the weather has warmed up here now so the issue has resolved itself. I would still like to know the cause before next winter.
Mine has a new battery so I don't think this is the issue.

I'm only recommending that a good starting point for folks with a 5-6 year (or more) battery bite the bullet and get a new battery... before you start to chase the gremlins. Your battery served you well

Hi. Did you get to the bottom of this in the end?

Are you experiencing the same issue? I noticed similar behaviour recently but only when it’s really cold: 20 degrees Fahrenheit / - 5 degrees Centigrade
