Exhaust cutouts on OEM exhaust survey

Just a few questions:

Cost? Reliability? Recommended setups?

I have an 08 E90 6MT that I daily and I wouldn't mind a little loudness on the weekends. I've done a little research and it looks like I need to build the kit myself. ECS has a generic kit for sale but I wouldn't mind some feedback on what others have done.

I have it. I have had qtp and now granatelli from jegs.com
Granatelli is way better than qtp and also longer warranty. Biggest pro for granatelli is that you don't have to hold the switch while it's closing or opening. You press once and it opens all the way and close again by pressing it once. And 1 year warranty unlike qtp that only has 3 months. And it's cheaper too with jegs.com promo code.

That definitely sounds like the way to go. Did you have them mounted at the 90-ish degree bend before the muffler?

yes at the bend right before the muffler. I had it paired with test pipe setup and it sounded really good without being raspy and no smell. Now I have a bimmerworld catless xpipe with quad resonator and honestly I liked test pipe setup better because now it's just way too loud + raspy and smell is really bad.
