Battery disconnected. Boot locked.
Hello guys.
Have had my M3 E93 for 4 days. Today I attempted to change the battery. I dc'd the original battery and it started raining so I closed the boot and went in... That's when I realised there's no key hole to open the boot. * Tried 'jumping' the car via the engine bay but that would have been too easy. Didn't work. Found an article on locating a certain cable under the glove box and powering it to pop the boot. 1. Open the panel under the glove box. Two screws either side. Remove the light bulb cable, lock unit, and another cable. (No idea what it does). 2. Locate the bunch of wires BEHIND the control unit. The wires contain a thick brown cable. Within this bunch of cables locate a green/grey wire. It's the only one there. 3. I couldn't remove the clip, so I decided to splice the cable. 4. Get your battery. Use a cable from the negative terminal and squeeze it into the earth cable of the light bulb adaptor you removed earlier. If you can't squeeze it in, splice the cable and attach it. 5. From the positive terminal of the battery connect a cable and touch it to the spliced GREEN/GREY cable from 2 and 3. 6. The boot will now open. 7. Remove cables from the battery as soon as you've opened the boot. Make sure not to kill yourselves. Or the car. |

In my experience, you can connect a battery tender to the jump points under the hood of the car, and the fob will open the trunk once the car is gets power. I experienced this once when I had disconnected the black terminal of my car battery and then closed the trunk, so it might be different if both terminals are connected to a dead battery.
Now I've tied a string to the release mechanism inside the trunk and run in through my ski carrier bag into the back of the car. I can hide the string in the middle storage compartment between the two seats, and I can unlock the trunk just by pulling the string. I had set this up because I disconnected the battery and locked the car when I went away for a month. |
