No wonder. Porsche uses big ass turbos for these models which equals worse throttle response.

Why can't European makers man up and throw in a supercharger? You don't buy Ms to save the environment..

Go get yourself a lightly used Golf R. AWD for the winter, can be had as 6MT, torquey motor, decent backseat, practical, stealthy.

I'm driving E46 and E90 M3s. The 128i is a possibility because it's so light and tossable. At low speed it's more fun than the M cars. Obviously it doesn't have the acceleration and the suspension has lower limits but they do feel nice on the street.

I'll also consider RX-8x, Evo, and maybe a Camaro SS which is a little above budget. The E39 M5 is a classic but for me there's no advantage over the E9x M3.

I've driven the RS4 and Mini Cooper JCW and found them numb. I've had a 135i and found it understeery. The torque was fun in short bursts but it was boring at low speed—the 128i just feels so much lighter and happy to rev.

Any other cars I should consider? Your thoughts? (Obviously this crowd likes the E9x M3–with good reason.)

I asked this for you on /o/...let's see what else people can come up with:

If the badge on the hood is your least concern, Genesis G70 Sedan comes with over 300hp, 4 doors and 3 pedals. It drives well too.

Mercedes and Audi used to have positive displacement superchargers but have changed to turbos. Done right, turbos are great.

I clicked and found it to be an argument over dipsticks.

Then I saw this and closed the tab...

It's the turbine not the turbo itself.

A little above budget, though probably will be there in a couple years. It's weird how many of them are low mileage. I guess collectors bought a lot of them. I have a friend who rarely drives his. I don't quite get why anyone would be so precious about that car. Seems like an all-season daily driver.

I think the baby boomers saw how people went bonkers for the G8s.

What about a Porsche 996? Rear seats, manual trans, low 3000 lb for the RWD models, $30k range is possible.

The G35HR and G37s manual sedan are underrated driver's cars IMO (underrated by everyone but the G forum, lol), and cheap to own and maintain, if you want a bridge car that isn't an M3. Worth a look. With a nice exhaust the thrashiness of the VQ is totally forgivable because it's an awesome sounding engine done right.

Your budget would buy the nicest one in the country or leave money to do stuff to it

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing

I'm a hard no on most Nissans but they hit on something special with that platform especially the sedan
