M3 vs 2018 mustang gt

So...any of you guys drive one yet?

I did and really liked it for the most part. I had it for over night and put about 100 miles on it. It was a 6 MT and had some pretty great options like Mag ride, valved exhaust, Performance pack with big brakes & bigger radiator external oil cooler ect ...The instrument cluster was all digital and very customizable kinda gimmicky but kinda cool.
OEM exhaust sounds REALLY good, like REALLY REALLY good from quiet "mode" to wide open. Seams like its a GT350 Jr. in many ways.
The price was at 47K msrp.
These are stout cars and very fun to drive.

What i didn't like....its a mustang! and the reputation that goes with it ( even thought i have a old one ) Plus they are everywhere.
As always lower quality interior materials as compared to a m3, the size and weight of the car is noticeable behind the wheel but the 400+ torque & 465 HP makes up for that in some ways. also worth mentioning although not important to some people... the stereo was weak as was the nav screen i didn't care for much.

As time goes by ill be interested to see what other m3 owner think of these 18 GT's. But only after you drive one :-)

BTW i still have my m3

Mustang will be in a graveyard 15 years from now, maybe 10. e9x will be a collector car. There's a reason for that

My issue with the S550 is the size, its a big car. To be frank if I didn't have a 2013 E92 M3 I would get the Mustang. With the 10 spd. auto they run 12.00s right out of the box. Optioned the way I would like it, the car will run $52K with the Performance Package 2 that will be coming out.

Have you driven one with the 10 spd? I have not.... seems at WOT they are great, keeps it in the power & torque but i have to wonder how this trans will do at part throttle and easy normal street driving, my guess is its a very busy gearbox and could be a bit to busy? i plan to check one out at some point. Going to be very hard to be better than a DCT .

Ton of torque with these, may not be that busy. I would still get a MT though. I think the 2018 MT car will be a 12.3 car.

Car and Driver just tested a 2018 Mustang GT with a MT it ran a 12.6@115mph. Just .1 faster to the 1320 and only 1 mph faster. Not to mention the car is heavy..3,878lbs.

Keeping my E92..

Most E9xM3 underperform relative to the best test result of 12.5 at 114.8 done by R&T in 2008. Probably the Mustang is faster than most E9xM3.

Yea I wasn't referencing that test. I was mentioning the Car and Driver did 2 tests. One with 0-60 in 4.1 and the 1/4 mile in 12.6 @113mph, and the other one in which they ran a 0-60 in 4.3 and the 1/4 mile in 12.7@114mph. Here are the tests.

http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...-amg-jan12.pdf

http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...=auto,-292,296

The 10spd. auto Mustang GT already has run a 12.0@116mph bone stock down to the paper filter. This is quite a bit of a jump from the best run I've seen from a DCT car of 12.3@114.8mph.

I do agree though, it does have an edge over the E92. Although it goes to show that even today the E92 can hold its own.

MotoIQ ran a test between a mostly stock GT with Performance Pack and a modified E92 M3. The results were very surprising as I was expecting the 450+hp M3 to get a few seconds on the Mustang. I'd still take the M3 over the GT any day. VS the Shelby GT350 is a different story

Mustang if its a GT350. Otherwise its just a Mustang.

I will be picking up a GT350 once the 17s are in the 45k or less range.

I was super die hard mustang fan but after I drove a friend of mines M3 E92 my mustang love went away in an glimpse of an eye.
Mustang these days is designed to compete, while Ford had to cut corners everywhere.
So yes, Ford is fast but don‘t expect it to even come close to an ///M feeling.
Numbers are that, just numbers.
You can drive ( professional driver ) super fast laps but will you get the same response, same road car connection, same safety like in an ///M car?
The experienced answer here -> No.
Simple as that.
Still have a huge respect to the mustang crowd but thats the way it really is.
Best bang for your buck, its been said. But thats the same relation to BMW 335i trying it slowly to convert it into an M.
At the end after you spend thousands of thousands of dollars, you come to the conclusion
an ///M car is something special, that you can‘t just replicate buy modding it till it falls apart.

Same with stangs...an 5.0 never will be an GT350 or GT500 nor come even close to style, sorry have to break up...my GF arrived just home...but you get the point.

Sounds like makeup sex time to me

I also agree, it's a friggen mustang GT - nothing special about it. Dime a dozen just like camaros and corvettes.

I'm curious how it drives compared to the GT350 (considering they both have magneride). I love my GT350.

The one I would wait for is the 2018 with the Performance Package 2. The car I drove was a 2016 Mustang GT with PP and what got me about this car was the size of it. Its a big car, I just like the dimensions of the E92 so much better. I thought the E92 got to be a big car vs. the E46. The 2018 car with the PP probably fixed my biggest gripe with the car is it was undershocked. My E92 M3 felt much more buttoned down than that car. From what I have been reading the magnaride shocks really went a long way in fixing this.

There were other issues I had with the car (fit and finish) but since it wasn't a 2018 I won't comment.

It has both DI and port injection.

Yes, direct port.

I think the Mag ride makes a BIG difference and is the only way to go... I test drove a loaded 17 GT PP then jumped into the 18 GT PP with mag and it was a VERY noticeable ride quality difference at freeway speeds ( and slightly higher ) and at easy normal city driving.

The 18 with mag ride felt glued to the road / dialed in ready for throttle input! and the 17 felt kinda twitchy and unpredictable, I hated how it felt at freeway speeds, it almost felt like it had run flats on it but it didn't. No wonder these cars have been spotted running groups of people over

also...another difference i noticed is the hood slope on the 18 is slightly more dramatic this allows you to see more road and less hood.

At about 4k rpm you get a very noticeable torque spike / bump, they rev a lot like our m3's except they have much more torque. This is good.
