WTB : Good home waiting for an E90 M3
For 7 years i have wanted an M3. Ever since i met my wife 7 years ago shes known this. She's seen me watch youtube videos, sift the forums and do extensive research and drooling lol. Initially it was an e46 however ive gravitated towards the e90. My plans? I plan to keep it stock as possible and just enjoy the beautifully engineered piece of work. She will be taken care of and garage kept and thoroughly maintained. She will be the baby i am expecting lol (dont tell the wife! haha). Terms:
I thank you for your time and hope someone out there is willing to trust me with their m3. I am glad ive finally made this post. Its been a long time coming. Last edited by jordantastic; 05-25-2017 at 03:35 PM.. Reason: other members posed better suggestions. |

You've made an excellent choice...IMHO the 2011 e90 with Comp package is THE e90 to have, because it is the only year that the sedan came with ZCP. Do understand that finding e90's is much harder that e92's and harder yet to find 2011, and again harder to find ones that aren't white or black. Finally as you alluded to, what's crucial is one that was a garage queen and/or well maintained. I wouldn't sweat the rod bearings or throttle actuators having been done or not, that can be done down the road if and when necessary. The key is patience, diligence, and being ready to strike immediately when you find a possible less you fall into that "one that got away" club. Good luck and post pics when you find your baby!

If you find one for that price and the years you're looking with rod bearing and actuators done, that'll be a rare find... it's pretty rare to find anyone who'd do those out of pocket and even more rare for someone to do that on an e90 as there are very few of them to start with.
As for years, if you're willing to look for earlier 08-09 cars, there are much more selection. The only difference is the 08 has different taillights and the older CCC entertainment system. They also have the more durable lead/copper factory rod bearings. Competition package is overrated - you basically get some cast (not forged) 19" wheels and stiffer suspension. Both of which you can add yourself.

Not sure how set you are on a manual trans, but mine is for sale (DCT). No rod bearing or throttle actuator services though.

The main reason for people recommending no 08 models is that the new taillights and the navigation system came out on the 09 models. 08 do not have those. ZCP suspension is slightly lower than non ZCP suspension. The difference is only 8mm or so but some people care about that. I'd definitely get ZCP if you can get it for a decent price but for me it isn't a dealbreaker.

Must be you and a I are the only 2 people on this forum who are not into the Melbourne red. If you have not tried out the 6MT in this car before purchase, you really should. Unless you are very familiar with MTs, or are used to other high performance, high revving engines mated to MTs, this will be a unique transmission which will take a bit to get used to. It's unlike anything you have ever driven and is a beautiful thing if you are proficient with shifting quite often to stay in the powerband unless you are in the high ranges all the time.
As far as the bearings go, the 08 09 had the nice soft lead bearings which seem to wear quicker than the newer compounds,(especially with forced induction applications) but from what I understand leads to less crank damage upon bearing wear down/failure. The awesome thing about the lead bearings in the older cars is that their wear is actually track- able on a blackstone oil report. That's pretty handy for sure. |
