Good Alternatives to LUX?

I've had my LUX bulbs in for roughly 2 years; but maybe 6000 miles at most for those 2 years and one of them is dead. Does anyone have any recommendations for a better alternative? That lifespan is rather disappointing

Same thing happened to me, and when I searched, I had seen many cases of the same thing - short lifespan.

Lux is way to expensive (IMO) for such short lifespans.

I went with these instead about 2 months ago and they look great. Can't comment about the lifespan though, but they were 1/3 of the price of Lux (with an Ebay coupon).

I ran into the same and ended up coding the car so that the angel eyes only shine when the headlights are off. Granted, in my case I sort of like that custom mod, but that's one thing to look into. The other is that as you know they are pretty damn bright, you have the ability to set the intensity of the angels via coding, consider pushing them down a couple notches to prolong the life span.

Did you do this mate? I was under the impression that lovering the voltage (with for instance Carly) didn't have an effect on the LED (while it does on the original bulbs)?

Cheers

I have LUX on both M3s and they've worked great so far.

If one was to die I think they have lifetime warranties but even if not, after reading about an M3 that caught fire due to Ebay LED lights I would never use those.

Hi, I did yes and in my case it was done with Carly. I am not sure if there is a difference in lux versions but at least for mine I am able to code in a lower intensity setting and it affects the output of the lux. Granted, it's hypothesis that this in fact affects lifespan as to your point these aren't halogen filaments. What I did not do is extensively test it, so I don't know if there is a cutoff point for example where it just doesn't turn on as the voltage is too low. Your question is actually making me think I'll look into this some more. Even if the light output does not change adjusted voltage should improve life span as it's the electronic elements that seem to die, not the actual led cell. Lol, perhaps there will be a $5 diy fix coming up to just swap out a burned out resistor!

The LUX H8 180 have a cover over the LEDs which helps reduce failures from heat. I've had no issues with mine. The 160 were prone to failure because they didn't have the cover

If you have a proof of purchase for the LUX lights from their site, you can get a nice discount on a new set.

Ah, got you. Yep the emitting light itself I don't believe change with supply voltage but you have a point it may decrease the power on the ballast and save life time. Haven't played around with the (Carly) setting since I changed for LED but will have another look.

Thanks!

There are so many threads about aftermarket halos burning out quickly. People seem to jump from brand to brand but it's always the same story; even though there are warranties, I'm sure it's frustrating to constantly be reinstalling those or driving with a burnt out one.

I rather like the OEM look. The brownish halogen bulbs contrast well with the HIDs.

I had the H8 180's and it still went bad. I bought it from Amazon so I'm not sure if they would honor the discount. Either way, I'm leaning at going a different direction. If I spent $80 on the cheaper bulbs, I could still replace a bulb and be under what I paid for the LUX.

Lux has great service..

call them up. If you are the original owner of the lights and can provide original proof of purchase they will sell you a single bulb at a reduced cost.

if you are within warranty then of course they will replace for zero cost.

I am using the Auxbeam NF-S1. It is a tight fit getting it to fit inside the headlight housing but it does eventually fit.

I don't know if it's because the new ones are using more power and are much brighter?

I have a set of Lux V3s that I've been using for 6 years and have not have any problems. I had a ballast replaced ($30 charge) but otherwise have been fine for 6 years, 50k miles and still going strong. I originally paid $350 for them. Maybe build quality is better as it's more expensive?

I've got a set from topgearsolutions.com. They've been great except one solder came loose but I am positive it was my fault... yanking on the wires too hard during repeated installs when I was trying to sell my old car. I kept putting the car back to stock to sell only to have a deal fall through... I'd get fed up... pit everything back in then a couple months later decide to sell again.

Anyway, I have the cheaper 4k kit and they look great. Fit is very tight within the headlight housing but they do fit.

How to the outer rings look with these though? The only reason i ask is because these are meant for headlight bulbs and not really designed for angel eye replacements
