AMG vs M
I currently own less than 40K miles 2013 BMW E92 M3 ZCP package coupe, but there's a lot of good deals out on a new car out there.
Any input of people here who own or used to own an AMG. I'm looking at 2019-2020 C43 AMG sedan w/ exhaust package. It's currently the same price as a use 2017 F80 which is crazy. I love my E92 but man the C43 AMG looks and sounds nice and have the new technologies. Any input would be great. |

What I can tell you is:
BMW M cars have a much larger following, opposed to Mercedes AMG cars. Probably due to the fact that M cars have an certain driving experience to them, which AMG can not replicate. Yes, the AMG can be fast in a straight line, with gobs of torque. But they just feel like spaceships on wheels, or even like an American luxury car. M cars seem to ALWAYS go for a lot of money at dealer auctions. Much more than any AMG. This is because a lot more dealers tend to bid on them. (The reason why I give you the dealer auctions example, is because dealers have a direct impact on the value of vehicles) My advice. Go test drive an AMG, then the M3. I notice as I am getting older, the more I admire Mercedes. More of a relaxed driving feel. Just hit the pedal and go. |

I’d like a new E63 AMG BiTurbo but can’t afford one. The last generation is more affordable, but does not handle as well. I like the AWD for putting the power down and for winter use.

I wouldn't blame you either way, it depends on what you are looking for but a C43 AMG will never be a raw and visceral as an E90x M and an E90x will never be as comfortable, refined or torquey. Pick your path. |

I wonder if the e63 AMG 8 bi turbo is more reliable than the f10 m5.
I’ve seen a lot of engine issues on the m5 forum. Rod bearings are needed to prolong the life. And even those won’t bullet proof the engine. |

I was thinking about the wagon for practicality since I haul lumber, tools, dogs sometimes. I was at the drag strip years ago when the AWD 5.5L BiTurbo was new and watched a wagon run 122 mph. It had only a couple of thousand miles on it. Wagon is heavier than the sedan so it is a little slower, but it’s easy to mod that motor. Wagon seems to be about $10k premium over the sedan.

The twin turbo V8 has a reputation as a maintenance nightmare. If you don’t have an extended warranty or are not an advanced DIYer, you could be in for some expensive bills.
