Exclamation Found a small DCT Leak during routine maintenance. Need some advise>>

So this thread here prompted me to remove my tray can check for any traces of a oil leak.........

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...highlight=Leak

Turns out my pan has very slight traces of some oil and it seems to be the gasket on the bottom pan. Checked the oil level and everything seems fine. Any idea if warranty would take care of this gasket?

Wayyyy overthinking this OP. No need to remove software. Just bring to dealer and they'll see the plastic is cracked/warped and replace. Good time to upgrade to gintani pan and save a trip to the dealer.

What did they diagnose?

You never know with dealers. They always look for an excuse to deny warranty. They could easily blame it on the GTS tune which has quicker shifts.

The GTS tune behaves differently when you start the car. It starts in "D" mode vs Manual which is opposite of the stock mode. Honestly I don't think they would notice but if the issue turns out to be a major one (replace Tranny) that's when they start digging in deeper.

I don't see a crack, looks like pan gasket leak. Why would this be a warranty service? It's maintenance.

I don't see why a gasket would just start leaking in under 50k miles?

Mine started leaking at 10k miles. Both mechatronic housing gasket and oil pan gasket had to be replaced

My (UK) BMW dealer is replacing mine today under extended warranty. It has the same weeping as the OPs car. I see no reason why it shouldn't be covered, a leaking gasket is not a service item.

How involved is the mechatronic gasket just incase I had to go the DIY route?

Dude it's an easy job but just go to the dealer. Car is under warranty no? Don't be so worried.

You can only buy the gasket with a new pan, you can't buy it separately.

What a rip! Seems odd that they put a POS plastic pan on this expensive tranny... That Gintani finned aluminum pan is sounding better and better, but no new gasket there either.

Except the Gintani pan is 5x the price of the OEM one from ECS.

My pan was caught leaking while still under warranty. Last week I had my trans cooler fail. I consider that a One in a Million occurrence tho.. At least the way mine failed.

The mechatronics gasket seems like a pain to change

So you have to remove a tray to see this? Is it difficult to remove? I'm going to take a look at mine from all this talk.

Im CPO'd so hopefully that will fully cover anything if I find something wrong. Ill report back, I'm at 46k miles

There is a cover that you need to remove to see the pan. When I caught mine leaking you were able to see that fluid had come on contact with the felt cover below. I was able to assess that it was leaking visually and by putting my finger in one of the air ports the cover has towards the front of the car, when I pulled it out it was covered with gunk and trans fluid.

Why were you charged $421 if your under warranty? Wouldn't your deductible be less than that?

The cover is super easy to remove. (2) 10mm bolts towards the back, (2) 8mm bolts on either side and (3) 8mm bolts towards the front. Literally took me 5 mins. The hard part is getting the car up Just jack up the front and use the jackstand. There is enough room from the side to slide under and take it off.
