Would you say a high revving car is almost always more exciting?

Twin turbos are great fun at low RPMs, you don't even have to floor it and it just goes, the problem is that when you floor it there is no extra
Increase in acceleration, and that sort of makes it feel empty, it even feels like you threw the tranny into N because the feeling between 3K and 5-6k is so similar. This IMO is why an NA motor will still be much more special and fun when being pushed, even though they might not give you that cool feeling of passing easily without going over 3500

CSBM5, that is funny - having both is surely the most balanced approach. I have a 335 and a Boxster, which are both very different in their power delivery. The 335 has a lot of torque and feels great to push gradually on the highway, especially in 4th gear. The Boxster is more like the M3, you really need to rev it out - but when you do, it sounds like a race car.

That's what I learned: If I floor the 335, very quickly I'd be probably 20mph faster than in the Boxster. But the Boxster is more exciting getting to its lower speed, because the engine is roaring right behind you. Similarly with the M3, it builds up to the excitement instead of just laying out and being weaker up top.

But if you don't want or need both, I'd tend to favor in the side of the high revving car. I think it matches the character of a performance car much better.

My answer is yes! And it isn't because of my M...

I used to have a 240sx with the smallest skyline motor swapped into it (RB20DET). A 2 liter straight six. The stroke is so short, the rods look hilarious. Imagine a supra that revs as fast as the M. By far my favorite motor of all time, especially to take above 8500 with 15psi.

I used to have a 335i with 446 RWTQ and it was fun and all, but the M3 is a totally different experience. It now has a raised rev limit to 8,600 RPM and dyno'd last week @ 575 wheel. It feels like a motorcyle where it doesn't have the "shove" in the back like a turbo car or a big displacement motor at the initial hit but the G forces build to the point where you feel like you are in a vaccuum from 7,000 to 8,600. And the wheels spin at each shift. Euro MDM helps with less intervention but keeps the car from spinning out.

The experience is awesome. Puts a smile on my face everytime I wind it out and I'm not getting tired of it.
