What do you guys think of the REM coating? Florian gave me a rundown, but not sure it is worth my extra 300 USD+
Are the only upsides a temp decrease, and no break in time?

Just sourced a 210mm diff core, came with the wrong flanges.
What flanges do i need to mount this core in my E92 m3 diff case ? Last edited by Traf; 11-10-2017 at 03:41 AM.. |

You need to shorten two of the E92 long side drive flanges down to about 78mm. The E92 has 12mm axle bolts and a slightly larger bolt diameter than the older cars.

i recently did some modifications on drexler gt3/gt4 setups to improve durability and get a smoother reaction.
the amount of high performance drilled clutches remains untouched but i realised to add some slight preload and (depending on application) individual ramps... steeper for street, more shallow for pure racing. here you see the weight-optimized core on the left and the GT internals on the right: two units in the making: final check of the breakaway torque before these two units will be shipped one to the states and one to taiwan: this is what most customers will need to perfectly install this unit: these internals are also used at bmw motorsports for the brandnew m4 gt4... only the lsd-case is different to fit into the new m4 diff carrier. i am building a few m4 diffs at the moment as well... will post some pics here when i am done. |

Can you see this video and tell, is this backlash in Ring and Pinion set is normal? I asked you on the 11 page about the clunk. I installed the LSD unit and this clunk is not fixed... I replaced all parts in my transmission and nothing... Today I see this backlash in Ring and Pinion set... Thoughts that it is a reason of my problem. |

what lsd did you have installed?
what backlash have you measured after installation? what friction torque of the lsd bearings have you measured? |

I can't answer other questions beacause I didn't do it by myself. Diff master did it in my city. I checked all parts in transmission. Replaced both axle shafts, cv-joint, flex disk, and checked my u-joint. All is new! One backlash in Ring-Pinion is there and I still have the kick to my rear subframe. I think it is a reason. I will try to reduce this backlash. I will ask my diff master. |

backlash needs to be measured with a dial gauge tip directly put on various teeth of the ringgear.

Ok, i understand this, but can't do it by myself.
Can you tell me, can be this slack a reason of the my clank in rear subframe with solid bushings? My diff master tells that it is a normal and it cannot be a reason. But i think it is a reason, but i am not a professional... |

I checked other differential from similar car - the same backlash. When I lubricate it by scrolling the gear, this knock dissapears. So it seems all is good.
Did you meet in practice that ring&pinion play was a reason of the clunking in rear subframe? I don't know where I should find the reason. May be flywheel? |

well, a certain amount of cluncing in the drivetrain of m cars is normal... as described in the users manual!
if you reduce/remove the backlash you will destroy the gearset... so even if the cluncing may get less i would not recommend this solution. furthermore a solid rearframe attachment massively enforces any kind of cluncing and noises. you should only do that in a racecar or if you really do not care about any noises! if you want a perfectly smooth drivetrain put in rubber again! |

Might be a silly question, but does gear/bearing polishing have any impact in noise at all? Not clunking, but diff whine.

i agree if the clunking is beyond normal it is something else but not the fd.
flywheel could be an option as well es worn out drive shafts... check the whole drivetrain from engine to the wheels. |

if fresh bearings or the gearset itself make significant noises this is due to incorrect installation. and if this is the case, the solution is not polishing but setting it properly! i would not expect too much from any surface treatment in a bmw 210 rear axle. but if you have the budget and are searching for the last tenth of a second in performance, why not! but for noise reduction only i definitely would not suggest to spend that money. |
