Tyre choices for 6 hour endurance race
Hi folks,
I am entering a purely recreational 6 hour endurance race with a team of five, where outright speed is not encouraged but more a regulatory race that you nominate a lap time and try to stick to that nominated lap time every lap. something like that ..... each driver will go out for 20 min session and rotate next driver within the team. which tyres and tyre set up would you experts recommend ??? please keep in mind money is an object and means a lot to me, I do not have corporate sponsors where I can have a set of tyres for every conditions on the race day. currently I have a set of aftermarket 19" and the OEM 19" wheels. highly appreciate any advice guys. |

You'd probably do well with something from the extreme performance category: AD08, RE11 etc. They'll have better longevity than most pure race tires, will take the track abuse better than pure street tires, and if you do get rain they'll be manageable.
Stock sizes you could get the RE-11 or the AD08R. In 255/35 and 275/35 you could get the new RE-71R.

Why waste $ on fast tires then? I would get just get something cheap and just pick a slower lap time.

R888 is a very decent rain tire, much better than any of the listed street tires in anything but deep standing water. Compound is more important than treat pattern for a rain tire and the R888 also has a very good amount of tread void at full tread. R888 is my recommendation.
6 hours is a LONG time even if the car is not being pushed. THe only street tires I'd consider for that abuse are the Dunlop ZII, BFG Rival (non-S, and since you're stuck with the 19" wheels that's out) and Yokohama AD08R. The RE11 might work too but it'll be significantly less grippy than those 3. Based on the wear I've seen from others after track days, RE71R's would not make it to the end.

NT-01's. Some people have run the 25 hours of T-hill on one set, all while running competitive times.
