Another E92 M3 bites the dust

No, it wasn't rod bearings!

Was on the highway late last night in the left lane when all of a sudden the 3-4 cars infront of me all slammed on their brakes. I think someone had spun out but I don't know for sure. All I know is that within a few seconds we went from going highway speed (100km/h) to a full stop. I slammed on my brakes and came to a complete stop a few feet behind the guy in the C43 AMG infront of me.

A second later I hear screeching tires and got slammed into from behind. Got hit almost full highway speed I think, hard to say. But it was a hard hit.. Within a few minutes the battery in the trunk started smoking and within a few more minutes my beloved e92 m3 was up in flames.

Thankfully no one died but I have some serious neck and back pain. Thankful to be alive.

Car was a 2012 E92 M3, alpine white with fox red extended interior, carbon roof, Comp pack, every option possible, 105,000KM...

That is really unfortunate man. Glad to hear the car did its job and kept you safe though.

I think it was still the original battery that came with the car. AGM I believe.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm super upset as that car was my baby and just so clean but, I think once insurance is settled I'm going to find my way back into an e92 m3. Getting the same spec and low km is going to be a pain though...

Important thing is you are okay!

Probably a good idea to carry a fire extinguisher after seeing this.

A nightmare for sure! If your neck and back pain are significant, please consider, if you haven't, X-rays, just to rule out fractures. Ice packs may be of help; physical therapy, if needed, in due time. Spoken by a retired physical therapist.
Take care, and speedy recovery!

So great that you were not badly injured. Cars are things. Things can be replaced.

Hope you get back into an M3 soon!

Holy sh!t! Glad you’re ok, that is my worst nightmare to be rear ended in my M3. I got T boned about 2 Months ago by a 17 year old with no license and insurance but was driving my DD 2016 Ford Escape luckily.

That's a shame on a low km car, it's good you're okay though.

Brutal seeing a loved car up in flames.

Very true, I'm glad that it wasn't worse.

100%. A fire extinguisher is a good idea, but I don't know if it would have helped here. Firefighters put out the fire many times and it kept reigniting.

You said it man, I'm grateful to be okay.

Thanks for the advice. I went to the hospital and got X-Rays and it's just soft tissue damage. Will likely still do physio though as this accident aggravated some pain from a previous accident where I was also hit.

How did that happen?

You got it right. Thankfully it's nothing serious.

Y'all are the best. This has helped me feel a little better. I'm glad that no one was seriously injured or killed. Got X-rays at the hospital and it's just soft tissue damage, nothing serious thankfully.

Talked to insurance too and while they said they would cover some of the mods, it's not going to be for full value. Better than nothing I suppose.

I have a feeling I'm going to be out at least 10k CAD when all is said and done if I want to get back into another e92 M3 with similar low KM's and mod it out in the same way. I also don't think I'm going to get the same spec that I had, I'll probably have to compromise on some things whether that be the color combo, carbon fiber roof, options, or comp package.

Sucks to lose out through no fault of my own. It is what it is though and I'm thankful to be alive.

dmz_m3 lets say a dealership mechanic forgot to plug in the IBM... which caused my battery to be overcharging...

so when ever i was pushing hard my battery was just getting hotter and hotter. which i was trying to chase down this rotten egg smell for months only to realize it was my battery. so during a drive to Monterey, CA my car wouldn't start at the gas station pump (COULDVE BEEN REAL BAD) and thats when i found out the IBM was never plugged in, and it was just leaking everywhere.

removed the battery safely and got to an autozone and got a new temporary one.

like that battery could've exploded while i was driving.

No doubt, it's understandable.
Make sure you show all maintenance records, there's some ads around here with ~60k miles that you can show the insurance company. Get all the cash you can.

If patient, you'll be able to find the spec you want, maybe even lower miles.

Fortunately you are fine!

Four years ago, I also had a rear-end collision on the highway. I was hit hard while driving on the highway...no car caught fire. Then I bought another low mileage e92 m3。
