They took out my AFE filter during 1200 mile service!

Not cool! I noticed it right away, cause the filter has the growl when you gun it... also, everyone saying how the car gets faster after the service, mine doesnt feel that way at all.. kind of depressing!

They took it out and replaced it with the OEM filter? Please clarify... also what dealership was this?

You think the mechanics know what they are doing.. not always the case. My buddie brought his Mustang Cobra to the dealer to trade it in for a Shelby.. His car was pristine and had a very expensive cold air intake installed. A few weeks later I took another friend to look at his Mustang and found out they reinstalled the factory air silencer.. when I confronted the service mgr (whom I knew) he told me his head mechanic said there was no benefit from running that junk and it just looked stupid in there... so they threw it out! Uhhh.. you got to be kidding me!

Yeah, right... I bet that that "expensive" cold air intake is right now installed in another Mustang, as well as the OP's filter is most probably installed in another M3.

What made you think the car would get faster after the service? Does an oil change make a car faster? Fluid and filter changes is all that happen at 1200 mile service.

Just wondering why you bothered installing a filter in the car before the 1200 mile service, since you shouldn't be driving the car hard during that time anyway.

I probably wouldn't have installed before the 1200 mile mark. =)

That sucks, by the way....

I'd just go back to the dealer and ask for it back.

I don't see how you'd notice a loss in power, since you can't/shouldn't rev the engine much before 1200 miles. And after the 1200 mile service, you should feel a lot more power (with or without the filter), since you can rev it to the max.

for some reason the dealer wanted to change mine because of a CEL i got that had to do with a sensor in the intake.. it was just a flook.. but i guess the proper procedure was change the filter... lucky i know the mechanics in the back that work on all the M cars.. and he didnt do it...!

yeah either ask for the filter back or your $$. It's only right especially since that filter cost $100 w/shipping probably. Good luck.

I would definately demand a new filter or at least the money needed to purchase a new one.

The car is also not faster after 1,200. You're just allowed to rev it higher and drive it harder then.

I have a few questions.

Did you ask them not to remove it (I always do when I have an aftermarket filter)? Did you ask for it back when you noticed? lastly, I get the jist from the tone of your post the answers are no. So, why are you telling us if you did nothing about it?

I appologize if the answers were actuall yes. In that case...go get em tiger.

I am heading back to the dealership tonight to take a look... It was dissapointing cause I heard all these stories of there being limitation on the horsepower before this service, and expected it to be faster, then not only was it not faster, it didnt have the filter in it..

Should've told them up front about it if you were so worried about them replacing it.
