Rain Sensing Wipers
Does anyone think their rain sensing wipers are too sensitive, even on the lowest setting? My wipers over-wipe, and my car behaves differently than my boss' E93, a friend's E90, and my brother's E82. I have very little adjustment with the thumbwheel too.
Has anyone ever filed a warranty claim for this? If so, what did the dealer replace and did it work?

My E39 rain sensing wipers worked the best. In the E9X I noticed there is no "in between" fuction, just on and off.

it's been raining quite a bit since I picked up my car 6 days ago and I have come to really appreciate the rain sensing wipers. Seem to work pretty good to me.
I just wished I did not have to turn it back on every time I start the car...

Mine always worked fine on the 335 (for the very few times I drove it in rain )

+1, except there's those times when i feel they are not sensitive enough. I guess the technology is almost but not quite there.

I'm usually a "do it yourself" type of person- no automatic system (transmission) will do its' thing when I want it to. The rain sensor wiper system is an exception. I think it's one of the greatest inventions ever. The system in the E90 works fine for me. Maybe there's a problem with some of them, but not mine. I've also never had a problem with the systems in my E46 or E83. I get frustrated whenever I drive a car with regular wipers.
While we're on the subject of options some people think are stupid, I'm very jealous that the '09s offer the heated steering wheel. We have it on our X3, and it's the best $150 we ever spent. (Sounds stupid, I know.) It wasn't available on the '08 M3 but I'd recommend it if you're living in the North and are ordering an '09. |

+1, yup, recently i was driving in moderate rain, and the thing was wiping faster than my dog can wag his tail.

mine has worked perfectly. on the drive home last night, there were periods of heavy downpour, mild rain, and misty drizzle and the rain sensing wipers adjusted between all conditions perfectly.
sounds like there are some defective units out there... |

Mine is also too sensitive! It wipes the windshield too often, without enough rain on the windshield so I get that annoying, shudder sound from rubber hopping across the window instead of smoothly sliding across it. This feature still needs some more adjustablity. Supposedly the thumbwheel will adjust the speed of the wiper, but I haven't noticed a difference on either setting. BTW I have an E90

Wondering, in the States do you get the silicone based wiperblades?

I don't have iDrive and I cannot find a headlight sensitivity setting for my 08. Seems like a reasonable fix though.

I do have iDrive and I cannot find a headlight sensitivity setting for my 09. Nor is there a sensitivity setting for the windshield wipers. I have no idea what kronzprinz is talking about. Maybe he can enlighten us.
