If most of you guys are reporting a 170mph limiter, then why is BMW claiming it's 155mph? Why are they being modest and not just admit it's 170mph?

The really scary part is how effortless the M3 gets to those speeds.....I've been over 150 several times....and the car is so stable you can just about take your hands off the steering wheel.....

2. The reason why BMW limits speed (or at least claims to do so) is because its in an agreemeny w several other companys to set top speed at 155mph. Last edited by rzm3; 11-08-2008 at 03:54 PM.. |

Its been confirmed many times over that M3 has a higher limit than 155... not sure why.

not so impressive for this string but, hit a digitally indicated 148 in what I am now calling the "Bonneville Corn Flats" (central Illinois). From 120 upward, the car "hunkered down" and was rock steady. My nerves and the other drivers were not so, steady. Hence I never saw anything above 150.
Damn the Germans and their autobahn!! Stuck here in America with sub-par roads and sub-par drivers. I really think anything above 130 on 99% of roads in America is incredibly dangerous...no one is checking their rear view, you can trust that. |

+1 on this. My old 330Ci felt ever bit of everything above 130....the E92 M3 is the closest thing I have driven to a "supercar" and the ease and rapidity with which it hit 148 was amazing to me...quite impressive.

Nice! When I first bought mine, I would just be walking by it (maybe doing yard work, etc.) and would get in it for no reason, smell the leather and fire it up just to rev and listen.

+2. I've gone little over 160mph more than a couple of times and I was very impressed and felt super safe. With the top up, its super quite. With the top down, it feels like skydiving on the highway. Its fuc*ing beautiful. I love this car.
