Headrests don't tilt like e46?

How come the e92 headrests do not tilt? or am I doing something wrong to make them tilt?

They do tilt, but not as much as the E46 M3 headrests...

09's don't tilt due to new safety standards, I think it's called active head restraints. My 08 has tilting headrests and there's no button to unlock or nothing just push to tilt

Active headrest? Does it move on its own?

Yes, in case of a rear collison.

Best regards, south

King Tut (09 E92 M)and I (08 E90 M)compared headrests and they didn't look much different to us. Stitch pattern seemed to be of a different shape, but overall the main difference was the lack of a tilt on the 09. Visually I didn't see anything ugly, or even different for that matter. It was dark out so maybe I missed something.

I'm pretty sure Laszlo was thinking that the new E90/E92 headrests look more like the E93 headrests. The new E93 headrests are indeed huge and very insane looking.

This thread is the first I'd heard about the non tilting functionality on these new headrests. That makes me feel very fortunate to have the '08s because I tend to lean my head against the headrest and due to the amount of recline in my seat, I have the headrest tilted fully forward. I'd be screwed without the ability to tilt them.

I hate to be this guy, but you actually aren't supposed to lean on the headrest. They are there to prevent you from getting decapitated from whiplash, which was apparently a big problem in the '60s. Also, driving in the gangster lean position is pretty far from optimal. Be safe.

I know. But I'm 6' 4", so its the most comfortable position for me to drive in. Even with the seat all the way lowered, if I don't lean it back a bit, my visibility is extremely low (both front and back) so it boils down to the lesser of two evils.

actually, they do look like toasters. The seats for the e46 m3 were so much better than ours. cheaper materials everywhere.

He was talking about the '08 E92 vs. the '09 E92 though. As pointed out already, the two are really very similar. So if you think the '09 looks like a toaster, then you will think the same of an '08.

But that's the coupe/sedan. To see the craziness that is the new E93 headrest, look here:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184294

And carefully compare the front headrests (NOTE: not the rears, those are the same, at least visually) on JMD0977's car with those on torredresen's car. The latter is an '09 and you can see the large tumor that now occupies the rear of the headrest. Actually, from his pics, its also appears that the passenger headrest's tumor is slightly different (even bigger) for some reason, but it could just be an optical illusion.
