Managed a 1:24.4 my second track day here!

First weekend back at the track in 8 months, and first time with the splitter, GT-250 wing, and pfc brakes...
Track: The Ridge Motorsports Park
5/23 Time: 1:51.43 (HLT) - 2nd day on new NT01

Did a lot of very similar times within that tenth, and there is still more time left. Need to work the commitment level up some more, but man it is a totally different car. Keeps up with the Porsches very well now. The GT3 drag me on the straights pretty bad though.

5/26 Time: 1:51.32 - 3rd day on NT01
5/29 Time: 1:51.23 - 2nd session of the day (4th day on NT01), then blew power steering pump and corded tires simultaneously. Had one lap I thought was open and upped my commitment at every important area of the track and was going to nab that 1:50.XX for sure but a Mustang got in the way as usual.

That's the sad truth. The only place they are fast as hell is in straights.

Yea, may be driver related buy they don't seem very impressive at braking/corner entry. Perfect car for the guy who doesn't want to point you by though. Hold you up into the corner and then rocket away at exit! I can only imagine how a cammed stroker would change the game! Jokes aside they are typically the best about pointing by at my go-to track and I have a lot of fun with them. Some of the American sports car drivers on the other hand... You sometimes have to go let them know (in a friendly manner of course) that you weren't "playing" with them, because your four door sedan is actually much faster than them and that is not a very fun game lol.

We have a diverse set of cars in the A class besides all of the brand new GT2/3's and GT4's, so it's cool to hang in our "inferior" car because of how much harder we can push it. One guy brings two trailers to every event carrying the latest Viper ACR Extreme and a 2018 Mclaren F3 car. He just decides which one he feels like driving that day and his one man crew sets it all up for him. A bunch of different stock cars and open wheelers show up too.

A well driven GT3 is fast as hell. Like our cars, most aren’t well driven. You have to drive them differently than a ‘vette or an M3 (or a Cayman). A friend of mine who had one said he turned in way earlier in his GT3 than his M3. Trailed to the apex and then got on the gas near the apex where we’re more likely to turn in later and get on the gas earlier. GT3 can get the power down better but we can turn in a bit better.

Properly quick, kyippee! For a first timer I'm super impressed.

Turn 1 and 2 seemed pretty nice!

Clean up 3,4,5 & 6 sequence by braking on into 3 with the left wheels on the rumble strip and then visualize the apex of 5 through the worker station (X-ray vision). The exit of the bus stop is tricky and there's usually a hole after the rumble strip so while you can get the power down a smidge earlier (maybe), you have to be prudent. Try to not bind the car up on the left hander after Riverside (what many old timers in the BMW club call Talladega). There's a ton more road to the right and if you set a gentler arc the car will still come back for the braking zone of magic mountain. Throttle steer through the sweeper to tighten up the apex and look for the worker station at Riverside when you're going through the esses. Helps minimize steering inputs and smooths things out.

If this doesn't get you a second on your lap time I'll be stunned.

Also, safety tips: if you drop a wheel off on the exit to sunset (back straight), just ride it out on the dirt. Lots of smushed front ends from people who didn't and snapped back into the pit wall. It's really bad when you run in the opposite direction coming out of sunrise. Saw a guy break his sister's neck there... Fugly.

Thanks admranger! I practiced the track with friends in Assetto Corsa PC so that really helped me have some understanding. I will use this for Laguna Seca 6/21 too!

Saving your tips for my next visit. Hopefully thanksgiving (SpeedSF) I'll go to Buttonwillow again. I bet you noticed that I short-shifted a bunch. It was hot there, and I figured I could shift up to minimize traction loss in turn 2 as well as some of the sweepers. I bet there's more time to be had using lower gears.

Same thing applies to the exit of turn 6 at Laguna. Drop a wheel off don't try to be a superhero and wrestle it back on to the track. Very gentle inputs only.

I've spun at Turn 2 before at BW due to too much power application. Be mindful.

Mark Boden was at this past weekend's Hoosier Super Tour with his SCCA T2 prepped E92 and did a 1:08.0 in qualifying.

The wing & splitter probably pay off really well there.

Forgot I had video of that! Lap 2.

Tried 295/30 nankang AR-1 on my 18x10 for the first time this weekend, same setup as before otherwise.
Track: The Ridge Motorsports Park
Time: 1:49.746 on the third session (Global Time Attack Transponder [HLT was within a tenth on almost all laps fyi]), then the grip started falling off for me. For me, they were only good for an outlap, the hot lap, and then the remainder of the session becoming a slip n slide, albeit an extremely fun one. Had to attack the learning curve on them much more aggressively than I normally would (i.e. Not the cleanest driving), given that I only would get 4-5 dry 15 minute sessions with them and there were a couple of red flag incidents. Most fun day I've had on track though.

Managed 2nd in limited somehow.

Finally broke into the 1:3X times at Road Atlanta this past weekend.
Got myself a 1:39.50 on the second day, then was able to repeat with a 1:39.70 on the next session.

First time out on a track ever with 6pt harnesses and a real seat. Was hoping to pick up more time, as my previous best with the stock seats and 3pts was a 1:40.20, but it was also a good bit hotter so I think the tires had less grip as a result.

Mods:
PFC Z54 Fronts with PFC 11 pads
AlpineMSS Motor Tune/DCT Flash
Half Cage/Harness
Pretty gutted interior
Stock suspension
BW Solid Aluminum Subframe and Diff Bushings

I keep knocking on the door of sub-1:40 lap times, but they won't let me in just yet. They told me I need to keep trying harder

Trying a different video format this time! Fun fact: I failed sound once at this 103 dB day. Measured 104.6 dB. I think they're getting more strict, microphone seems to be placed outside of the booth, ahead of it. Yikes.

Bought some used pirelli DH 285/645R18 from John Berget for my 18x10's

Track: The Ridge Motorsports Park
Lap time: 1:48.4

More time was there, but Advanced group with the org I ran with today was much slower than my usual org, so I only got a couple clean laps in the dry today. At one point I passed three cars as a literal slalom lol.

Still around ~3500lb without me. Really itching to be lighter, but I still drive it on the street some and to the tracks. I like how the tires behave though. They won't last long of course, especially with a track that heavily favors left turns, dragging the inside of the other side's tires around the track.

So ~2 secs per lap faster on the DH compared to the NT01?

Almost 3. There is more left as well. In an interesting twist, it rained the first half of the day and I ran my literal first track tires (I still street and rain drive them haha), heat cycled out RS4 on 219m wheels, and when the track dried I was within a second of NT01 times not even trying lol. Those RS4 are the most interesting tire I swear.

Edit: should note that alignment change to max out front camber after switching from NT01 though.

Good info - thanks!

The RS4 is an appealing option for a decent speed, last forever, HPDE tire or for endurance racing. I wish they had more size options though.. particularly lower profile options for 275, 285 or 295's, all of them are so tall

Yea, a 295/30 would be a really cool tire. I would probably drive to the track on it (with fast tires in the back) and have it as an alternative in case I cord my fast tires and/or to play around with other drivers on.

Alright I'll stop spamming the thread after this. Was just pretty psyched on this one...

Track: The Ridge Motorsports Park
Lap times: 1:46.95, 1:46.93, 1:46.94 in consecutive sessions.
Tires: used pirelli DH 285/645R18 on 18x10's

No run groups today (open lapping all day) so I tried a different approach. Got them to let me out into the biggest gap possible, ran a slow but somewhat aggressive warmup lap, then ran one or two hot laps before catching traffic. Then ended the session and tried again in 45ish minutes. Really feel like I understand this setup very well now.

And some crappy video...
