Competition BMW - Service Input
Can anybody weigh in on their semi-recent experiences with the service department of Competition BMW on LI (EDIT: St. James location)? I bought my car from Rallye (and had a great sales experience there), but after repeated poor service experience I'm looking to switch to another dealer for my remaining 1.5 years of warranty maintenance. I had always written off Competition as I haven't heard great things about them, but then saw they made it to BMW's 2014 list of "Best Dealerships":
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=952211 Those results might just be based on sales alone but curious what you guys have to say. I'm also considering trying Habberstad BMW of Huntington. Thanks! Last edited by jra85; 03-01-2014 at 10:36 AM.. |

Interesting as I'm pondering the same thoughts, only in reverse with the service locations. I've had 2 mishaps at Competition in Bay Shore; one a serious over site on mechanic's part (plugs not torqued), the other no so serious but somewhat careless. The SM and SA were accommodating and professional, and I believe he has an M as well. BUT their not the ones working on my car! With that, I've heard I'd be in better hands at Rallye, now I don't know. With my warrantee coming to a close in 2 short years, and my M not my DD, my only option may be to bank on the expertise of a private mechanic like ACM or TKS Performance in Huntington. This will be more costly, but it least I'll have piece of mind that the mechanic working on my car knows what the heck he's doing. That alone is worth it.

That's funny, seems we're screwed no matter where we end up I should have clarified that I'm actually referring to Competition in St. James, not Bay Shore. Once I'm out of warranty I will no doubt be going with a private mechanic, though I haven't researched this at all yet. I just want my remaining free oil changes and some rattles fixed without having to worry that my oil won't be filled all the way, my wheel won't get scratched/chipped, and I won't have to take the car back multiple times to fix "simple" issues I brought the car in for (all have happened at Rallye).

That's a good question, something I'm gonna approach my SA about. Are my scheduled oil changes still warranted given my mods?
That's crazy cause there's multiple references to "good experiences" with Rallye here. These guys are reputable here as well; http://tkxperformance.com

I go to competition all the time for oil changes and such. I bought my car from rallye and didnt like there sevice so i transfered to competition. Rallye stripped a bolt on my oil pan (replaced it) and stripped most of the lugs on my stock wheels. Always had a good experience at competition and its alot closer for me being out in the sticks.

Perfect timing for this thread. I have been looking for a new dealership to deal with for service as well. I have had bad experiences with habberstad in Huntington since my service advisor left. So I will plan to try competition for my next service especially if they have loaner cars.

Alright cool I'll give Competition a try next oil change then. They're the closest to me too so if they do a proper job that will be a nice perk. Amazing how difficult it is to find competent work out there.
And if anybody has had bad experiences with Competition that they prefer not to post, please PM me! |

I live close to Rallye but leased my car from Competition of Smithtown. Never liked Rallye at all but the connivence is what made me use them for my oil change. Needless to say it affirmed my feeling for Rallye, their SM and SA were a joke. Ill be going to Smithtown from now on.

Which service advisor did you use. I need to get my nys inspection and oil change done. Also has anyone had their wipers changed under the service plan or should I just buy replacements myself.

Any thoughts on Habberstad BMW of Huntington? I bought my 2011 335xi Coupe there and have used them twice. They did replace the left exhaust under warranty because of the vacuum flap valve rattle. Just wanted to hear your opinions.

Just dropped off my M3 for service this morning. Process was much quicker than Haberstad and they are in a temporary location. Rudy did advise to replace the wipers as they had never been done in 2.5 years. Hopefully service turns out to be good when I pick the car up.

Nice, let us know how it goes, my oil change is coming up this summer. When you say "they're in a temporary location" are you referring to Competition? Are they moving? I remember the place was a bit older looking when I stopped by there a few years ago.

Current location for competition is in the old Audi location. I guess they must be redoing their location. Loaner car was ready right away so I was happy with the service. I am going to bring my m coupe next, will see how that goes as this was nothing major.
