My SSII with black wheels, 35/20 tint, and other mods.
Wheels are semi-gloss black powdercoat, including air valve nuts with black caps (and I painted balancing weights black too ). Went with 20% tint on all 3 rear windows, and 35% front. Not the best look, but it dramatically cuts interior heat here in hot TX, and doesn't look bad with the black wheels (another reason I did it). Other exterior mods were BMW performance black grilles, body-colored stock gills (and their black inserts), and reflector delete. Already had the muffler painted flat black and just JP Thunders bulbs for the DRLs ($15).
Never been a fan of black wheels, but this 'baby blue' color needed some aggression , and along with the black grilles, shadowline trim, and tint, which added 'balance', car looks the way I wanted, and like no other SSII. Nobody is going to assume a lady drives this car now . Not looking for approval or anything (I know it's an acquired taste ), but I could never find an SSII car with any of the mods I did. Hope this helps folks considering one or more of them. First pic is before any mods, so you can compare. As a comment, reflector delete made ALL the difference in the world (best $120 I've spent, and that included the gills as well ), and black wheels now make the rotors stand out. And my car is still 100% stock mechanically . And yes, looks much nicer and mean in person. Forgot a shot of the rear, but posted an older one with the muffler painted black and tucked up at the end. Finally, I want to show folks that this color is a great alternative to white, unique to Ms, and with a bit of help, looks classy, aggressive, and unique . NOW I'm happy with it. Later gang. Wow, and debadged. I really do like it, simple and clean.
The black wheels add alot of aggressiveness to the side profile but do work well with the tint. What is the reflector delete mod you speak of? Surely it would have cost more than 120 to fill the reflector holes and re-paint, and I didn't see any colored reflectors. What gives?

Okay, I'm getting a SSII as well.
I had not seen your E92 before now, but had already decided on black wheels. I was really thinking of the RAC R63 anthracite. I was going to add a little more than what you've done, but never considered a reflector delete since I thought it would cost more than its was worth. I can't imagine $120 for it. Where and how did you get that done? Ours won't be the same though, I'm getting an E90. |

Wow, glad some of you liked it; thought everybody was going to hate it . This is the first, and probably last time I ever paint any wheels black, but after much debate (and without any pics to help) decided to do it, and it worked really well on this car and color.
Hey Doc, glad you're getting SSII because of this thread ; your car will look even better than mine with those wheels . Quote:
I never liked painted reflectors since they look like a patch to me, so was living with the orange abominations . But they're the next best thing to most folks. Hey, I much rather have orange reflectors than having crashed my baby . At least it was all just cosmetic, so I'm grateful for that, but still sucked. Take care folks. I like how SSII looks on the E92 M3! Very nice mods but now you need these Black tips to complete the look.

I think a drop would finish this car off nicely.

When i saw your first picture with your stock look I was like SSII looks superclean but then when i scrolled down WOAH, that looks freakin aggressive, I like it alot.
I thought at first that you had the eurospec frontbumper til i read about your incident. I'd rather fill then patch as well, but its ok for now lol. Not 100% sure if I like the debadged look better then badged, but it sure do looks way cleaner and more simple. Less is more right? OH btw, you should paint your side vents black as well, look into that, would look SUPERTITS on your car, and it will match your colorscheme. |

Looks fantastic!
The "baby blue" seems less so in bright sunlight. In your opinion, is that actually the case? I'm asking because I have only seen SSII paint in showrooms under artificial light. |

Thanks to all for the compliments. I was expecting a lot of , so this is a nice surprise .

It's just tint buddy. Tinter has to be patient working that area. And it helps a lot (and I highly recommend) tinting the 3rd brake light area. You can see a little bit of it upon close inspection, but looks just like it before the tint, but stands out less, since now it's black on black. Oh, and tinter said 20% masks much better 'dot matrix' intensive windows like the Accord and M3 than 35%, so that was another reason to try that mix. I've always done 35% all around before, but the Accord has a HUGE rear window (plus a ton of 'dot matrix'), so decided to try 20 just on the rear for the first time. The side windows were an accident, but after seeing them, told the guy to leave them in place. And did the same on the M3. Main reason is both cars have a black 'B' pillar, so that also helped a lot to mask it. And last benefit is less interior wear and noticeably less heat intrusion. I'd NEVER put anything more than 35% on the front windows; not safe at night at all, plus a lot of reflection. Had to remove it one time, and learned my lesson there. With 35%, is like you didn't have anything, and it offers plenty of sun protection. Safety first. Hope this helps too. Have a good one folks. Last edited by JCtx; 04-26-2010 at 11:13 AM.. |
