I smell troll, but I'll play.

Dooooood you live with your parents! Move the f@ck out on your own if you're so baller.
BTW, if you're rollin' a 328i right now that's pretty dope for 21. I had an 8 year old Civic at that age, made shit for money, but sure as hell didn't live with my parents.

Wow, a thread about engine life turning into a financial thread and telling this kid he can't afford what he wants....

For what it's worth, why not just look for a $30k - $35k M3 E9X. Don't be so picky. Keep your payments pretty damn low. And lots of nice people in South Florida with E9X's.... you can come to the meet and drive events.

It sounds like that's what he was doing, but people were telling him he couldn't afford that either.

For reference, I bought my M3 about 6 months ago in Fort Lauderdale. It was basically immaculate and well optioned (Nav, EDC, DCT, etc.). 2009 with 34k miles and I paid $34k for it.

You guys don't now enough about his financial situation as well as his career to say he can't afford the car. For all you know, he has a 7 figure trust fund opening up in 4 years.....

That's four years, not today. Wish someone would have told me this when I was a 21 year old recently on my own... I went without electricity and developed an unhealthy fear of the ringing telephone as I balanced my meager funds and my shiny new car.

He's not on his own, and from a couple basic comments, he seems to have a pretty secure and high paying future in his family business. We don't know the details, not by a long shot, to tell him he can't afford the car. Maybe we should focus on being a little more welcoming and just answer his questions.

Everyone has a different situation. I could NEVER have done that at 21, even if I wanted to. But who would have guessed where I would be at 31, you just never know.

Everyone here's a hater.

Get the new M3/4. You're young and probably care more for new and shiny rather than what the E92 is and will be. Plus you'll have warranty and be able to swap it out for something better because you're gunna get bored of that crap powertrain.

Everyone here's so quick to judge a kid for being 21 and living w his parents. So many people out there live w their parents far older than that. Just cuz your dickhead parents made you pay rent the hour you turned 18 doesn't mean that other parents do the same. Sure, look at moving out and eventually buying a house etc. and welcome growing up and be prudent with money but don't let a bunch of old guys on an internet forum make you feel bad because you want to have fun while you're young. Everyone makes stupid financial decisions and leasing expensive cars is up there because you're essentially renting it.

Also, small private business owners can do well. If your dad could build this ground up, it's not hard to learn from the guy who built it and eventually take it over and grow it.

From a guy who had generous parents who gave me a lot too, but made me learn and educate myself thru grad school in addition, my advice is:

get a fun car
drive it responsibly
be modest about it
stop posting proof of a family business to a bunch of guys who you don't have to placate or prove anything to
educate yourself further so you don't muck up your family biz when you take it over

The Evora S? It's a great enthusiast's car with top-notch performance and handling, but Lotus has never been known for building reliable cars.

I use that term relative to OP. Lot of late 20's thirties and older guys here. I'm sure that demographic is shifting lower as the E9X M chassis ages and cheapens in price. But still, relative to a 21 year old, even a 26 year old is gunna be referred to as some "old guy" if there's any negative connotation with the guy at all.

Did you mean to say that's the kind of "Irrational Exuberance" you were waiting to hear?

That's a term a hella old guy might use
