Question on e92 engine
Does anyone know whether or not I would be able to drop the new M3 engine into my e46 M3? I've got an '05 and I LOVE the car and don't wish to get rid of it. But I would love a V8 under the hood. Is this possible and if so, how much would this run me? Thanks to anyone that can help.

Don't bother. By the time all is said and done, you could have leased an e92 and kept your e46.

The engine alone will be cost ~$28K, You probably would need a new tranny so your already over $30K, Labor will be a lot to get it done right. I'm not an expert but it could cost at at least 40K- minus the money you get for selling the engine you are replacing.
IHMO this is a stupid idea. Like others have said, just get the e92 M. If the cost for the engine is more than you thought, spend 10K for a supercharger on your current engine. |

What you really need to do is drop an S65 in an E30 M3

At least $100,000. First you'd have to buy an E92 M3 to get the engine. This is the only way to get the engine, because I doubt there are many of these on Ebay. Then you'd have to pay for installation of your new engine (and drivetrain because the E46 drivetrain likely can't handle the power).
Of course you could offset the expense by selling the de-engined E92 afterwards. (This probably won't go for very much though). BUT you could sell your E46 engine to someone who's looking to stuff that into their E36 M3. Verdict = do it
