SoCal insurance premium on 335i..tips?

Are there any State Farm agents in the LA/OC area here. Or if you're satisfied with your agent please PM me.

I am in the process relocating from northern NJ / NYM to the Pasadena area and got an insurance quote to transfer within State Farm with whom I hold all my insurance.

I was taken back at the estimate which has premiums 44% higher than what I am currently paying, equal increase on the 2011 335i and 2005 4Runner. Both addresses are in good areas though new address is in a downtown area (though cars will be in lockup garage which I think should make a difference to counteract that). Considering NJ is a terrible place for cars (traffic and weather and terrible state of roads).. I am surprise by the increase. I am still in process of comparing the liability coverages for changes there.

Any tips welcomed to assist here.

location is the issue here. Unless you recently had a major credit issue or accident event, it's gotta be location.

I live in DC metro area, my specific county here in VA is significantly lower than the neighboring county and the DC itself which are both just 3 miles away. Based on what my agent told me, a garaged car has minimum impact on pricing as well.

your agent should be able to tell you pricing differences based on local zip codes.

Thanks. I suspect it has to do more with being in the city than anything else. Irony, I am so close to work and entertainment I will be walking to both. The cars will hardly move Monday to Friday, but I hate to restrict myself with limited mileage options.

I am with Wawanesa insurance company. I've been with them since 1998. Happy so far, and good customer service. They do have also Umbrella policy. Or you can't go wrong with AAA.

+1 on wawanesa, get a quote from them. They have provided great service and were like 900 cheaper for the year than anyone else I found.

I work in Pasadena also. Make sure they factor in the low miles you will drive a year. I have 2 cars and have the mileage split accordingly.

goodluck!

If you are moving to oc there is not entertainment there.

Just shop around if the increase is too high or find an address and other discounts that would lower it a bit. This is an expensive place to live. Sucks.

Yeh, I expect increases in many areas of cost of living, but insurance premiums on the car surprised me. I would think there are more risks and higher accident occurences in NJ than in SoCal - due to winter weather, bad roads and the mere existance of Newark..

Not a deal breaker, just trying to understand the reasons for the higher premium.
