ABS/DSC/brake lights is on e92 M3 :(
Hi guys,
I believe this was discussed many times and I searched but I would like to confirm if this is the pump ECU or the hydraulic unit or wheel speed sensor So my car is a 2008 e92 bmw m3, started off with abs, dsc, brake light on while there is wheel spin. I managed to turn off the warning lights by unplugging the negative terminal on the battery and connect it again after 15 mins. When the car starts again, the light is on then when I move the car forward, I can hear the abs pump working and lights off. That was a quick fix..then after a while...I had a hard brake and might have triggered the abs...then abs, dsc, brake light is on again. This time the previous method didn't work and Its on and off randomly now..had a scan it returned 5DF1 DSC Hydraulic Unit: Pump motor connector faulty, Hydraulic Unit: Pump motor connector faulty 5DF0 DSC Hydraulic Unit: Pump motor I can still hear the pump is working...so..what could be the fault? I think this is a very common issue for e90/92..any comments will be greatly appreciated..cheers |

I had all of those codes pop up on me, and it turned out to be a bad wheel bearing.
At first, i was told it was the ABS pump, but you can hear it prime when you start it up?! So I did a reset, and drove it for awhile and then i got a code for the right rear wheel? So in your case? Do a reset to see if you get the same codes to be sure! |

I cleared all my codes after the same thing happening, sometimes it can be cleared by turning the steering wheel lock to lock, but lately it's been stuck on.
005DF1 005DF0 Those are the two codes that come back up after clearing them. Dealer told me that my DSC module is faulty, $2600 repair. I wonder if it could be as simple as the pump motor or pump motor connector. Edit: 08 E92 6MT

I was told the pump generally don't fail, it is the ecu inside the pump. avol3xo: i did a steering wheel lock to lock as well..it didn't work |

That sucks! And that part from the dealer is $$$, but at least you will have a warranty on it afterwards.
Or you can get one used? I seen some on eBay for around $3-400 bucks, and then have them install & reprogram it. Talk to your SA to see what options you can go about it, if that really is the case? |

I had those lights come on and it ended up being a bad wheel bearing. Mine would come on typically after I hit a bump, went over some sort of crest, etc. The code would go away on its own after a ~20 min drive and then it would come back while driving again.
But I believe when my mechanic ran the codes it came up as a rear wheel bearing, not something else. I was with him when he plugged the car in. Although I remember him saying that it could have been a faulty module which can throw a bad code (which would have been more expensive). To those of you bringing car to a dealer, do yourself a huge favor and find yourself a good independent shop. |

what are the chances that it is actually the wheel speed sensor that is causing the issue but..the ECU scan shows 5Df0 pump engine connector and 5Df1 ECU ABS internal failure?

I just had this happen to me yesterday, interesting to see your post. (DSC Inactive, Brake light on)
It also happened about 12 hours after torrential rains, I also just had my car aligned the day before. I was thinking that maybe the steering wheel angle sensor hadn't been re-calibrated. (My steering wheel was off a few degrees before I went in) After reading the forums I was pretty sure I was going to have to buy a wheel speed sensor at minimum, however I went out the next day started the car and did a full left lock then a full right lock (Supposedly resetting the steering sensor) and started driving and all the warnings went away. So maybe moisture, maybe resetting the sensor. I also check the codes with the Torque android app and I had no stored codes, I thought that was odd. (This was when I had the error showing) |

Where is the most commonly recommended (currently) place to send off these DSC units for a rebuild?
I've only had my 08 E92 for about 1 month and I got the ABS triplet combo of lights also. They go off and on randomly, and each time it tilts my side view mirrors down just a little bit. I have experienced this cycle of off and on about 10 times, and finally took it to the dealer and they read codes 5DF0 and 5DF1. They want $3,678 My battery voltage reads 12.5V when the engine is off and 14.0V when idling. I have already cleaned the wheel speed sensors. When the error lights are off the systems in question work just fine. I'm going to get my car back and fix it myself just as I have with my other bimmers. Sounds like a common issue with these DSC pumps, why is it ? GM |

I am having the same problem on my 09 E93
Lights came on about a month ago. Took to local dealer and they were able to clear codes. Told me if lights came back on, then DSC hydraulic pump would need to be replaced. Lights stayed off for a month and came on yesterday. Called dealer for quote to replace and was told $4000. I had him repeat to make sure I heard correctly. So I am talking to local independent shop to see what they determine. And if have to have replaced, its got to be cheaper than $4000. |

Well, I'm happy to report that I think it's fixed for good! I removed the entire ABS module (hydraulic and electronic) in one piece, sent it to ModuleMaster, and garaged my car meanwhile since it was undriveable. When the part arrived I installed it, very carefully and slowly drove to my local mechanic where he did a full brake bleed and flush ( using the appropriate software to cycle the ABS) and voila! No more error codes and the car brakes, spins tires, activates DSC etc. It cost me $250 for the module repair and about $300 for the brake bleed. If you only have error codes 5df0 and/or 5df1.....this is the least expensive way of doing it.
The best part is: they warranty the module for up to 5 years from the repair! The BMW OEM part only warranties for 2 years. There is an inherent flaw in the part from factory that may or may not affect some modules. |

GM,
Thanks for the info. I am going to have car looked at this week. If it needs new module, I plan on contacting ModuleMaster and have them rebuild my unit. |

Wanted to give an update. I had my local independent shop remove my ABS module. I shipped it to ModuleMaster who repaired it and shipped it back to the shop. Unit was installed and checked out with no problems. The cost was $250 for the ModuleMaster repair and $285 to my local shop. This is a far cry from the $4000 the local dealer quoted me.

+1 on that. Just had these lights flash up and would like to know if the modulemaster fix lasts!
