Talking How much time do you spend on Bring a Trailer.com

I work from home, well since March 2020 I have - I have three computers. One is work only, never ever look anything up other than work related. The other is for fun stuff i.e. cars, parts, searches for cars, etc. - the other is for work too, but is just a dumb server thing I use for uploading stuff for work.

Anywhoo, I find myself lurking on BaT sometimes...ah, for awhile...and then I snap out of it and do some work to pay for stuff...

Cheers,
Merlin

Guilty. Get some alerts set up to really draw you in and you'll get notified when a vehicle you like get's listed.

It's car porn for sure.

It’s addicting! And don’t forget CarsandBids.com. I actually bought my M3 there.

I’ve read that BaT is best for sellers (I sold my ZHP there),and C&B is for buyers… and pricing seems to reflect that

Not a lot, but when I see a post here regarding something interesting I will head over there.

Honesty, even when I was looking to buy my car and had cash burning a hole in my pocket I did not frequent BaT. Not that they might not have had something I would have been interested in, but I am not fond of auction sites in general. Also the extra fees and all the other BS is simply not worth my time. I would much prefer to find a car from a private party who also happens to be an enthusiast and buy from them, which is exactly what I did. I might have ended up paying more or less the same either way, but I would avoid an auction for this type of purchase if possible.

Browsing around at 3-5 on Friday can be fun if big ticket cars are going.

Watched an xjj220 not hit a reserve at a huge price.

It can be fun watching other people spend money that I will never have for entertainment!

Wink

Too much for my own good, got alerts if a F355 or 964 is listed. Not that i could afford those lol

Like my mom always said, "the best part about window shopping is that it's free."

Too much - mostly BMWs and Toyotas and also occasional interesting American muscle or truck.

It's fun to watch and finally we get actual transaction information and very nice car detail as opposed to Manheim data which wasnt great. Information gives power to the people, so to speak.

The extra info to the "less-informed" can also create a perception problem. A very nice example of XYZ car goes for a lot of money and due to the high profile nature of BaT, word travels fast and then you get some people thinking their car is worth a lot more than it really is.

Hardly. I'm on bimmerpost way more often.

Anytime I do venture over to BAT I just look at M3's. I'm always surprised how reasonable prices seem to be over there. Plenty of low mileage E9x M3's going for 30's to 40's meanwhile on our forum we have people thinking their 120k mile car is 40k

That xj220 was a fun auction to watch. I check BAT at least daily. I get the daily email that shows what's new and what's ending today. If something catches my eye I'll click on it. I love the knowledge of the commenters. It doesn't matter how rare a car is there is always a couple people spouting deep knowledge in the comments section, and occasionally some cool stories that get told. I also regularly check what's for sale on a few different dream cars of mine such as M3s (obviously even though I have one), NAS Defenders, early broncos, NSX, etc.

I usually never go there on my own, everyone always sends me links to check out cars. So I end up being on that site a lot, haha.

I do like CarsAndBids though. I was thinking of listing a car on there during their free August promotion, but decided I didn't want to part with the car yet.
