Dealer said they think they were either defective or something to do since they only have 1 electrode and oem has 2 electrodes.

Horsepower!? One electrode vs two? The weight savings alone would be worth it

They all have 1 electrode, they are talking about the ground strap. The new plug will be much more susceptible to melt and or crack and break away that strap. It happens especially when the strap is that long. It then falls into the cylinder bounces around for a while, dicks the piston up and gets spit out the exhaust.

Had a great experience... NOT!

Had bmw dealer put them in.. all 8 cylinders misfired. Bmw dealer says we have oem plugs in stock but we have to charge you for putting the Ruthenium plugs in. So i put oem plugs in and everything worked great. Called NGK and they let me return them. They said they may be defective. Not sure what was wrong with them.

0 chance all 8 plugs were defective, NGK just saving face. Points to you for being the guinea pig for us all though. Thank you

I just installed Ruthenium HX in my X5 with V8. No issues at all. I was a bit worried about incompatibility issues after reading the comments.

I wouldn't recommend installing NGK's at the dealership because the OE plugs are made by BOSCH and probably come with the correct gap sizes.

The dealership probably didn't gap the plugs correctly or you sir bought the wrong plugs for your vehicle. There are many models for the new Ruthenium HX.

I got mine installed at a tuning shop specializing in GTR's and other JDM imports that had a NGK certificate placed on their walls.

They have to be certified NGK tech's to install these plugs. My X5 now has more mid-range torque and doesn't need as many revs as before to achieve the same amount of power after installing these Ruthenium's. Car runs better than ever!

Worn old plugs negatively affect turbos more than naturally aspirated. Your X5 probably ran better because of new plugs. You would never be able to tell the difference between new ruthenium plugs and new stock plugs.

Also E90M3 use the ionic knock sensing through the plugs unlike your X5. This may make the M3 more sensitive to non stock plugs than your X5.

I had them installed at a bmw dealer and the plugs came pre gapped for the m3. The threads would not have even fit if they were for a different vehicle.

I install the same plugs before reading this thread. I had the exact same issue. All cylinders misfire.

When back to original plugs all better. Ngk ruthenium doesn't work on e92 m3

Is yours tuned or have any exhaust mods? Mine did. I am not sure if it had anything to do with that? NGK has always been top notch, seems so weird.

Do the Fords have ionic knock sending through the spark plugs that is tuned for the BMW S65 spec plugs?
