I haven't got an email back yet since this was Friday afternoon. I've already stated that I am displeased with the work. They kept telling me they might not be able to get out all the yellow because of resin damage. How would this be fixed now short of replacing the entire roof?

I am not an expert but I don't think it can be fixed anymore. It is going to be very difficult to sand all that down without sanding into the CF weave. A replacement roof plus labor will cost a fortune. I would document all previous/future conversations carefully. keep it in writing through email or text

Nice! I had the same thing going on with my E92 M3. I am from NY and bought my M3 from Georgia. It was sun soaked and the carbon fiber roof was in a scary condition. My roof was in pretty bad shape, but I had a reputable body shop that the dealer recommended that I should bring it to. They did 6 coats of clear and I gotta say it looks amazing. They are still buttoning everything up and can’t wait to see it in person!
Was really hoping I didn’t need to dish out a ton of money to replace the roof, but these guys did some magic! |

No longer have the car, however it showed no yellowing 6 months after the job was done.
As I understood it at the time, the secret was cleaning and prepping the roof - specifically, making sure to clean within the weave. Not a job for the faint of heart as the prep labor is often far worse than the actually reclearing process. I hope BMW has changed their production processes with the G series. Starting to become more common in our generation and F generations as well. |
