Got beat by Audi S4 B5
i'm cruising down 485 at around 60 mph when I notice a black Audi S4 B5 pull beside me door handle to door handle so I give him a thumbs up and keep cruising but he stays besides me. I look ahead and we really don't have adequate room to race, maybe an eighth of a mile if that because of traffic ahead.
Anyway, I figured he would not be picking a fight with an M3 unless he had some modifications. We raced 3 times for short spurts and I never shifted out of 3rd because I did not have enough room to get the rpm's up where I wanted them. Regardless, I could not catch him in the little distance that I had. He would pull a full car length on me each time. The turbos he had were very loud and sounded amazing. I had to turn off and I flashed my lights a couple of times to let him know it was a good run. He put on his flashers, oh well. Another day another time the outcome may be different. And yes, as a former owner of an S4 B5 I know how sick you can make these twin turbo cars. |

i wonder how I would have fared with a chip tune, cat delete, underdrive pulley? He probably still would have beat me. I will need a supercharger or turbo more than likely

I had a B5 S4 stage 2 prior to sellign and upgrading to my M3.
S4 should only take you on the launch (mainly due to teh fact it literally DOESNT peel out it just launches!)but then the stock M3 will pull away easily. If its a stage 3 then its 500hp and torque. Thats a beast. Stage 2 is VERY cheap and easy to get to. Stage 3 requires changing to the bigger turbos. Stage 2 cost me $500 for the ECU and $1500 for the exhaust ,filter and blow off valves. It brought it from 268 (?) hp and tq I believe was around there as well to 318hp and 370 torque. The power range is EXTREMELY short in comparison to the M3. Handling on the stock B5S4 sucks big time in comparison to the M3 but mind you it is an 8 or 9 year old model/technology. The car was VERY fun but the quattro (at least for me) kept it too tame. The power of the M3 on a rear wheel drive only is sometimes scary fun and I enjoy that way more. |

I have a Stage 3 S4 and a E92 M3 on order (and had a 335i for a bit)... yeah in a straight line I have no expectations the M3 will be faster, with any sort of turbo upgrade you'll be seeing taillights for sure.

Yea I read this on Audizine.com (username Audi S4 Turbo). My friend has an E92 M3 Smg and we did some runs. Any stage 3 will beat an M3. My friend is a good sport and knows I love his car (I almost got one after selling my E46). My car has methanol injection and the K04 turbo upgrade and is supposed to be around 500 CHP. Sleepers for sure Good that you were a good sport and were able to post up. Most M3 owners, even myself, hated loosing haha

Yes I had KO4s, i was in the process of ordering all RS4 body parts, quarters, fenders doors, the whole thing to convert it but ended up just getting a new E46 M3, and then sold the S4 maybe a year later, which i really regret, it was such a fun car.
