I have a modded sc m3 pushing 650 to 700 whp and currently running 18/10.5 apex arc 8s with 295/30/18 r888r in the rear. I am trying to get more traction on the drag strip. I have seen in other threads that the Hoosier 315/30/18 will fit in the rear but my question is what mods if any do I need to do to make them fit? Will my 18/10.5 wheels be wide enough or do I need to go with 18/11s? I know the MT street et will fit but I am looking for something a little better. If anyone know of any better tire or setup lmk.

what is your current .60ft 1/8 mile 1.4 et and trap?that infor will better help with this choice.

I haven't been to the track this year yet l did some racing last weekend and other guys were getting much better starts than me. I am currently in the process of getting a line lock installed.

Honestly a R888r 295/30 is more than enough even at 565whp Car cut a 1.7 60ft and 10.9 pass on 93. if you are on flex fuel not a actual full e85 tune then you don't make 650. I would be focusing on softing rear suspension and pin pointing launch RPM going to the hoosier will be a bandaid,.

DCT Me personally just dont see how I can spin my tires and have a good start. I live in Omaha Nebraska are there are only 1/8 mile tracks within 3 hours of me.

Let us know how you do at the dyno. Hope it is a Dynojet so the numbers are more comparable. I think you need practice launching more than you need wider tires. I know people with manual trans cars (E36) who have run high 9s to high 10s on 275/40/17 R888R.

What have you done to the rear suspension? What tire pressures are you running at the strip? The line lock, or locks depending on how you do it, Will help you heat up the rears to improve traction. Launching hard is brutal on the car.

Yes it is Dynojet.

I have solid subframe bushings and purple dif bushing, also adjustable coilovers.

I was told by a few different people to not heat up the r888r. I think i have my LC set up at 3500 rpms.

I love the r888r, i think it is the best tire i have ever ran, just think there are better dedicated tires for the strip so i dont necessary need a wider tire.

My plan was to have extra rear wheels to throw on at the strip and start at 20 psi. Im not a huge fan of spacers so i could run the street et in an 18 or the Hoosier in a 17 on the arc 8.

I would want 17's trying to optimize launch with that much power, even if it's a bit narrower the 275/40-17 hoosier might perform better thanks to an extra half inch of sidewall

I've used the 315/30-18 A6 (older hoosier autocross tire) on the back of my car in the past, but that's actually a shorter tire at 25.6" vs. 26" tall, but I would think a 10.5 would be fine, people do that all the time.

I am going to look at the 17s. I'm probably going to get the arc-8 17x10 cause I see no reason to get the 17x10.5(they are sold out right now) if I'm not going for a super wide tire.

If I did run the 17s you think I could fit the Hoosier Bias-Ply 28.00x10.00-17 if I raised my coilovers up?

Also probably not going with the 315/30/18 but would I need spacers to run these?

I’d be careful with bias ply unless you are an experienced drag racer. They move around a lot. So much that you really want skinny bias ply up front to match. I’d stick with drag radials. A squishier sidewall is easier to launch. 275/40/17 on 17x10 is great. I run them on 17x9 but have a set of 10s waiting.

I have run with burnout and with not heating the tires and done about the same both ways in my turbo E36 M3. I am not a great driver, though, and run around 11.5 at 135. A friend with a nearly identical car does nice burnouts and is a better driver and does high 10s at about 135. To do a nice burnout you need a line lock. He says the burnouts help and he also preloads the car on the handbrake. These are MT no launch control cars so it’s trickier.

I agree, the bias ply tires are really for cars that have been set up to go down the road straight as a first priority.

I think a 28" tire in back is probably doable with raising the suspension, but if it hooks hard enough to squat a good bit, it's going to hit stuff

Shop was very busy and i wanted car for weekend but going back in shop Monday for linelock and dyno.

Also picked up 17×10 rear wheels and 275 hoosiers
