Powder coat interference with hubs?

I just got my 359 wheels back from powder coat. The guy who did them coated the entire wheel, including the surfaces that mate to the hubs. I haven’t tried to mount the wheels yet. The dealer tells me the thickness of the powder coat will prevent the wheels from seating on the hubs. The powder coat guy, as expected, assures me there won’t be a problem. Who’s blowing smoke?

i have had wheels stuck on the hub due to powder coating. I had to use a deadblow mallet and all the strength i had to knock it off the hub.

I would not mount that wheel onto my car. Guy who did the powder coat is a lazy arse IMO and should have known better.

Thank you for your comments so far. I appreciate as much input as possible. The first time I ever took the wheels off they were stuck to the hubs due to rust, and it took a lot of kicking, pounding and prying to get them loose. Now I always put anti seize on the hubs.

Is the problem with the powder coating that they’ll get stuck to the hub or will they be unsafe? I thought I could place a piece of plasti-gage between the hub and wheel and then torque the bolts down. Won’t that tell me if they’re mating tightly?

Absolutely should be no powder coat, paint, or any treatment on the wheel mounting surface. The powder coat will be an issue on the hub as it will be too tight. More importantly if it's on the back pad it could prevent the wheel from sitting perfectly flat which will cause a vibration.

Furthermore powder coating at high temperature can severely weaken AL.

There should also be no powder coat material in the conical area where lugs seat against the wheel.
