ZHP Shiftknob, first mod, done.

Pretty straightforward, I actually ordered an alcantara shift boot but the one I received didn't fit (guess e90 M and non-M have different sizes) so ended up cutting stock boot which I initially didn't want to do.

I was fearing the stock knob removal but it wasn't too bad actually, got it on my second pull, as mentioned in the DIYs, a quick pull up is the best way to go.

All in all, pretty happy with the results, shifts are definitely nicer with the weighted/shorter knob. Oh and I didn't bother with getting the lit up zhp knob.

Not sure if I want to do spring delete, I don't know what i'm really missing out on...clutch seems ok to me?

I would do this if it wasn't such a PITA to keep the illumination.

Trust me, clutch pedal spring removal should be the first modification done; you will not regret it

+1. I just had mine removed last week and wish I did the first day I got my car. My ZHP knob should ship soon. Can't wait.

One of the mods that really makes a difference! ZHP shift knob should have been standard.

How easy is it to put the spring back should I not like it?

Do you get more lateral movement of the pedal now? I've read a few posts complaining that the spring removal creates lateral movement of the clutch pedal.

The only thing I have is about an inch of loose play when the pedal is depressed. Bugged me the first 20 minutes or so of driving, but it has no affect on shifting or drivability. For me the the benefits of the removal far outweigh that little issue.

As long as you know a left-handed midget you should be all set

I never felt the need to put my spring back in. I imagine as long as you have some spring clamp pliers it wouldn't be too hard. I agree it makes the clutch feel much more natural. You can actually feel where it engages as opposed to on/off.
